What module is under the deadpedal
of an 87' S4 U.S. version? I'm trying to find the signal for the reverse lights and was told it is in the drivers side kick panel (green w/ yellow stripe) I found the wire but was wondering what the module is that it goes to.

My answer is based on only one cup o' coffee so far this morning Eric.
I believe that module under the dead pedal is the central warning system brain - the thing that generates warning lights on your instrument panel when there is a system fault.
Don't worry, someone will correct me if I'm mistaken.

The reverse light switch is on the transmission; the selector lever controls it. Pin #5 and #6 red/black – black/ yellow. There is a back-up lamp relay XXII.

The backup light switching varies between AT & manual. The manual originates @ a switch on the transmission. Drives the lights directly - look for the boot @ center/top from right underneath - it then goes into the battery compartment - trace it back. I seem to recall that the auto has a relay as well as sourcing the signal from the Starter interlock/selector.
For the manual get into the spare wheel well and root about at the back (front of the car) - remove the black plastic trim piece and locate the appropriate cables - Black & Brown on a two conductor connector in my '94 manual. Black is the switch O/P of course according to the usual convention.
I needed to do this recently to get a backup disable signal for my new Donnelly auto-dim mirror. Worked like a charm, although I had no idea that there was anything under that panel before I looked.
Good Luck

Whilst this is not entirely related to the original question but is related to wiring issues.... why is it that the reversing lights on my 88 S4 Euro auto work when the sidelights are on but not when they are not?!
Thanks..............Andy
