Default Valentine one?

Well after hearing so much about the Valentine one I figure I better ditch my Bel's and cobra's and get one. Anybody have a smok'in deal on one? New or used doesn't matter. If you don't have one know where I can get the best deal on one? Jason

They have them at valentine1.com.

I doubt anybody else will part with one. They are too much of a life saver!

If I ever become rich, I'll buy one for each car...

I wouldn't sell my V-1 for twice what I paid for it, because then I'd have no protection until I could get a replacement. In fact, I still haven't sent mine in to Valentine to be upgraded because I would be without it for a couple of weeks. Unacceptable. Just buy a new one. You're asking for someone to sell you a used condom. Get a new one. It will save you the cost the first week you have it.

I switched from Valentine to RockyMountain Radar. I'll never go back. I love the scrabler. I can drive by a radar sign at 60-70mph and the sign just jumps around from 35-45mph. I thought it was a joke, but my wife sells them at work, so I figured, keep the receipt and try it out. Works great. On reading radar it seems on par with the bell or cobra. Thing is no detector will save you from a pop up used at the last minute. A scrambler however will make it unreadable. They even have a nice remote setup ofr states where this sort of thing is frowned upon.

Last year my V1 saved my wingman and I a total of six times on our trip to Sharktoberfest. We had one hit that was several miles out before we actually came up on the bogey.

The radar scramblers/laser shifters etc would be nice, but I still would want the V1 for general info, you can not beat those arrows and bogey counters.

So long as the bear is unable to realize he is being scrambled, you're OK. If he suspects, and busts you, you have a BIG problem, particularly if you live in California. A little bird told me about jammers that actually do work well, and can prevent detection if used properly, but I didn't believe him and gave him rotten bird seed for telling me about such tactics to circumvent the laws of our fine and honest country. I even clipped his nasty wings. But I'll bet these devices are actually available out there if a person really wanted to find them. As for RMR, I know another bird that told me to stay away from that brand. But I have no personal experience to verify his claims. The first bird told me about another brand,.........but I forgot to remember which it was. I guess a person who really wanted to know badly enough could research the subject very carefully and quietly and might find out the brand that works, if such a brand actually exists, of course.

A federal license is required to broadcast at certain frequencies. A radar jammer must broadcast something to cause the radar receiver to think the reflected signal is something that it otherwise wouldn't be. There is talk of passive jamming which is just reflecting the signal in a certain way, but I doubt that a product at this price could do this.

Beyond the federal license, states may have additional laws regarding radar jammers. It is a buyer beware issue.

Agreed on the legal issues of scramblers. In Florida they are legal and sold in legit nationwide retailers, like PepBoys.

If you pass a bear and scramble him, slow down, slid the scrambler in the glove box, then smile and wave as he passes by. He'd still need probable cause to pull you over, turn signal, busted light etc..

The FCC has indeed put RMR and other companies under investigation. Nothing has come of it yet. Oddly it was the main folks at Bell and Valentine that brought forward the complaints of illegal broadcasting frequencies to the FCC...

I truly thought it would be snake oil, or Moon Breeze.. but after trying it all I can say is it works. I need to see if I can get the camcorder at an angle to catch the speedo and one of those radar signs at night as I pass by. It's pretty funny the way it bounces around.

Bought mine from V1 direct with a 30 day return policy. I also purchased a 8500 blue at the same time. The Escort is now sold. In side by side the V1 was simply awesome for my driving area and conditions. You won't regret the decision.

RMR unit does not broadcast, it just doesn't let the radar reflect back to the radar unit to give the operator a speed recording.....this is, of course, according to RMR some years ago.

When the Fed's made it illegal to use detectors in commercial vehicles (aka: 18 wheelers), I quit using them.

That was in 1990.

Speeding tickets since then: yes, a few...

Convictions: no.

Attorneys: yes.

Cost: same as buying the latest and greatest detector whenever they come out.

Miles traveled per year: about 120,000---give or take a few.

Detectors and jammers are fine, but they won't save you from "instant on" or airplanes.....

My opinion: keep your money---fight all tickets in court. cost is the same or less per year. never pay a speeding ticket fine---always fight. Look the officer straight in the eye, be polite, and tell him you absolutely will see him in court. Chances are very good he won't show up. You win.

er....mumble....mumble......cough.....fidget........um.....I have so much to say. I'd better just keep it to myself.

Just get a freaking V-1 and don't leave home without it. You'll be glad you did.
You KNOW that the bears know you WILL exceed the speed limit even if you don't intend to do it. Don't ask me how I know this. Ask yourself how many Porsches are on the roads relative to other cars? Think it is anywhere around 15% (which is 100% minus 85%). You can figure that out. Well, is probably much less than 15%, and a legally set speed limit represents the 85 percentile of FREE FLOWING TRAFFIC rounded up 5 mph MORE. Is it any mystery that you are uncomfortable and drowsy at the limit which is likely not set legally. Well, know this: you are also not likely at the safest speed for you or others anyway. And then there are the bears that hate your freaking guts and will write you if you were giving a nun a ride to church, and 10 under the limit on Sunday morning. And they have their gun readout at twenty over the limit and never shoot you with it. Or anyone else they write that day. And your V-1 will give you that information before they approach the car. You can ask me how I know this. And while you're at it, invest in a small portable pocket tape recorder to record your conversation with the bear. What's another few dollars for that priceless information? And also a digital camera to use to record the conditions at the site. Yup! Fight every one. You'll join the 3% who do. But the V-1 will save you the trouble by preventing 95% or more of them.

Oops! There I go not keeping this stuff to myself.

Ron maybe it would be helpful if you did a list of things to help beat the tickets you seem to be knowledgeable on the subject. Jason
