I am pretty sure the white Camaro's are gone by now. Read a story last year that they were phasing them out as they hit the 100k mark as were not replacing them. I have not seen one in a very long time now.

Heinrich makes a good case for using the high-end (>$1000) Escort's laser jamming capabilities for dealing with the very different threat environment in Washington State, where there seem to be laser traps every couple miles along the freeways. Compared to the V1 which simply alerts in such situations, I agree that an active countermeasure is called for in that environment.
However, I am one of the V1 faithful, and I think it should be on the short list for consideration in any environment where radar is the predominant enforcement tool used by these tools. It saves my bacon regularly. Karl Malden voice --> "Don't leave home without it".
BTW Ron, I had several POP hits on I-5 over the weekend; you might want to just suck it up, go for the upgrade, and just be a bit extra-careful for a week and a half while your unit is upgraded. True, POP readings are non-admissable, but why go through the hassle?

Just get a freaking V-1 and don't leave home without it. You'll be glad you did.
You KNOW that the bears know you WILL exceed the speed limit even if you don't intend to do it. Don't ask me how I know this. Ask yourself how many Porsches are on the roads relative to other cars? Think it is anywhere around 15% (which is 100% minus 85%). You can figure that out. Well, is probably much less than 15%, and a legally set speed limit represents the 85 percentile of FREE FLOWING TRAFFIC rounded up 5 mph MORE. Is it any mystery that you are uncomfortable and drowsy at the limit which is likely not set legally. Well, know this: you are also not likely at the safest speed for you or others anyway. And then there are the bears that hate your freaking guts and will write you if you were giving a nun a ride to church, and 10 under the limit on Sunday morning. And they have their gun readout at twenty over the limit and never shoot you with it. Or anyone else they write that day. And your V-1 will give you that information before they approach the car. You can ask me how I know this. And while you're at it, invest in a small portable pocket tape recorder to record your conversation with the bear. What's another few dollars for that priceless information? And also a digital camera to use to record the conditions at the site. Yup! Fight every one. You'll join the 3% who do. But the V-1 will save you the trouble by preventing 95% or more of them.

I just returned from a quick run down to LA for a couple of days and then back. Straight down I-5 and back up. That road is "Snooze Street, California" with its unending straight stretches of two lane torn up pavement and sub-standard barriers and shoulder work. Scary in places, and the trucks have eaten up the right lane so all the left lane hogs drive left to avoid the rattling from the cracks. I must say though, that things are improving because if most people see you coming, they will move over smartly without protest. The traffic was generally flowing for a change. But the most bothersome aspect of this place is the sign at the beginning of Kern County: "Speeders beware. 675 licenses taken last year....." WTF? And surely enough, on the way down, I got 5 hits on the V-1; all but one was in Kern County. On the way back up North, I got 11 hits; all but one of those was in Kern County. At least 90% were direct saves by the V-1.
Only once (outside of Kern County) did I see an almost impossible to avoid threat with a bear cruiser tucked away in the shrubbery along a rest stop with a corner just before the bear and a straight stretch directly after him, so no one could see it coming until directly alongside his cruiser nose. He was using only his front antenna so no advance scatter warning. I happened to be trapped between a couple of slowly moving trucks so it was a moot point.
The moral: don't leave home without your V-1, especially if you plan to drive in Kern County, CA. on I-5. The bears are very hungry there.(or they're hurting for revenue). The bright side: drivers in some parts of CA are learning etiquette and safe roadside manners.

Sean, I'll say one thing about Texas: the drivers that I encountered there will move over immediately if they see you coming. That is such a blessing, and only now being realized as such by California drivers. But Oregon and Washington drivers are totally clueless. Just (unsafely) pass them on the right in those states, because that's all you can do.
