Default Help - lost belly pan fastners/screws

I'd like to be able to say my wife did it, or the dog got them, or the boys did it...but, I think I tossed all my belly pan fastners out with the newspapers spread under the car during my last oil change...and the sandwich bag I placed them in.

Tuff getting old!

Can anyone tell me what sizes are the front end fastners plus the screw/bolt sizes for both front and rear pieces of the pans?

Thanks - and if you're ever in Williamsburg, I owe you a beer! Mike

Dumb question, the Leathershop page shows kits for a "splash shield" along with the one for the belly pan. What's the splash shield?

Neither questioner gives MY, might want to read the new visitor thread for tips. The early cars at least 85-86, have one pan. The newer models (I know only of the GTS) have 2. The front is plastic, uses 5 speed nuts across the front plus two outer bolts are larger, Budd doesn't list this and the 2 main fasteners toward the center of the pan are IIRC 13MM and require a larger > 3cm washer, not in the kit either. The rear pan is alum and uses 7 screws, must be what he calls the splash pan.

I always thought the splash shield is the front liner in the wheel well.

I have a belly pan and nowhere to connect it in the back. It was fastened with zip ties when I bought the car. I haven't put it back on because I'm missing the rear pan.

On the S4+ cars:

Across the front, there are three tinnerman-style "speed nuts" (??) on metal tabs that dangle from the lower radioator support area. The two outer screws go into "speed nuts" that attach to the corners of the front spoiler. There are two formed plastic arms that take screws up into the frame horns.

Moving back, there are two 6mm capscrews with flat washers that thread into the rack. Wehere the two air ducts are, there is a screw in aech of those that engages another timnnerman-style "speed nut" on tabs right up through the middle.

At the rear edge, the front fan fits on top of (towards the top of the car and opposite the normal pull of gravity) the leading edge of the rear pan. There are small screws that engage more speed nuts in the rear edge of the front pan.

PET lists the sizes of all the fasteners, and a phone call to your favorite 928 parts vendor will get you the whole mess. However, it's easily possible to substitute sheet metal screws in various sizes for everything except the 6mm capscrews into the rack. That will let you store the pan safely under the car while the correct bits are in the mail to you.

Thanks all - Rob's $9 package only has hardware to secure the front end of the belly pan (mine is an '87 S4).

I'll give 928 Intl or Pelican Parts guys a call.

Mike
