Default Weissach Customize or keep Original

Ok, new guy here, with a 1982 Weissach. I have had the car less than a month. Trying to determine if I should try to restore the original interior to original or customize…..

The PPO (Prior Previous Owner) made some interior mods that I may want to change. First, no changes to the leather or carpet, thanks PPO. However, sound system is ??? Checked out the connections from the spare tire area where rear woofers (very nice speakers MB Quarts) are, PPO had made connections with masking tape, used **** type carpeting to cover, ran wires under floor mats not under the carpet, disconnected normal rear speakers, put a video screen into the console to replace the radio, and more. Put the CD player (nakamichi) in the passenger tray in front. So I can play DVD movies on the screen (DVD player in the spare tire area, even has an antenna for TV reception), very 80’s.

Are there advantages to keeping the interior original for a Weissach? According to the original sticker from the car it looks like the Weissach was only different from the others by special color leather interior, special paint (Hellbronze Metallic in my case) tires, etc…… most changes to the interior (additional cost for Weissach Package $5,940 in 1982).

My thoughts are to try to keep the original interior in tack. Redo speakers and since I have a gap in the console – do the Pioneer AVIC-D2(3) console redo like 928ntslow’s without the raised console (that was beautiful).

Comments and suggestions welcome. Especially about the keep the Weissach or mod the Weissach.

I think tasteful modifications would be acceptable. Doesn't sound like you are into the whole pimp-my-ride thing. That is good!

GMan, if I'm pimpin it will be with my big cigar in my Pimp Dad Car (see signature). Don't smoke in the 928.

Whatever you do, you do it for yourself b/c I don't think you will be rewarded financially. And unless you do a super job, I don't think it win any concourse. I can see upgrading the stereo, but I wouldn't buy a Weissach unless I intended to preserve it. I hope you can keep as much as possible.

I guess what I am looking for guidance on is the perforated leather speaker areas of the car and the cargo/hatch area. I love a great sounding stereo as I cruise the long and winding roads of Texas. I hope I can acheive that with the normal configuation of the 1982 interior.

Concourse? I cleaned the engine compartment this weekend. It was very clean. However, for concourse another 3-5 hours on the engine area alone. I think that what I am hearing is enjoy the orginal ride (inside) keep it as close to the orginal as possible. Correct?

Mechanically, I will improve the perfomance.

Modify what ever you like, that does no permanent damage. No cutting, welding, deforming of original panels and original formers. Getting the correct materials would then put it back to bone stock condition. If this is too restrictive, buy another OB and mod that, but leave the Weissach alone.

Thanks docmirror, I am leaning in that direction.

I have some work to do. Seats and carpet to name a few. It would be easy to do a post 1982 speaker install. All of the leather interior (except front seats, only) is in great shape (need do a litle reshape on hatch panels, minor). No dash probs or pod probs. So, with the exception of the PPO's mods to the console and rear spare tire area...Time to complete is the issue.

Thanks

I'm with docmirror. I would not make any permanent changes - only bolt-on bolt-off type of stuff.

Or buy a different car.

There are so few good Weissach's left, it's sad!

Here is what I did to upgrade my perforated speakers. The Pioneer 4"x6" TS-A4672R speakers were definitely an improvement over the original speakers:
