Hey guys
i wanted to share the great news with you !
Had my first race with the nasa guys at the Glen this weekend. Had a blast and encourage more 928's to get involved. I entered in the 944 supercup series which includes most front engine water cooled porsches ( 944 turbo's , 968's and 928's). Nice size group. Of course i was the only 928 there and the first 928 ever to run in the series. I'am still a rookie racer and need 4 races in order to get my national license- so my goal was just to complete the race. i was not looking for best times or anything. Well i did better than i expected for a car that i drove up in and ran on the same tires i arrived on -- toyo ra 1's --full tread because of the expected rain. For the most part it was a dry weekend. On Sat i finished the race in just about mid pack for my class. I ran a best LAP time of 2:22.5 -- best LAP time in the class was a 2:17.8. Most guys were on hoosiers...so not too shappy for the first time...definitely room for improvement --at least better tires..anyone run toyo full tread in the dry -- those suckers are real slippery...i think overall it was a pretty nice accomplishment for the ol 928 and was happy with the results !!!!!
Sun race results were similar -- i was a second or 2 slower...u can go to mylaps.com for results..

What is involved in preping your car for that class? What is the expected cash outlay if you have no break downs?
Congrats on your first race.

Congrats! Your times look pretty good for a first time out.
I was at Summit Point all weekend with NASA. The CMC guys I know love the Toyos and they are close to the same weight as a 928. They said the key is to shave them and let them warm up for a lap or two. After that, they should be very close to Hoosiers in grip and last much longer.
Damn, I thought I was going to be the first 928 in Supercup next year.

thanks for the kind words. I'am running with a weight penalty for the 86.5 and up. I spoke with the national director he has me set at a wooping 3500lbs thats with car and driver combined...still stinks..but i will take it for now. The director is real cool and looking for more 928's to enter. He has had a hard time recruiting 928'S in past but willing to work with us. He told me if i am not competitive i could lose more weight.
thanks

Congratulations! Racing at The Glen. I envy you. I'll have to break out the PS2 and take a few laps just to get it out of my system for the winter.
