Default Texas folks maybe help a fellow 928er

My son is entering the Air Force in December and as you can imagine I am sad and happy about this. What I am wondering if any of you all are near the base and could get me there from the airport, or know of a car service or rental agency that I could be directed to. This boy means everthing to me as a son and partner in business and I will be missing him. So give me a shout if you can help.

Are you talking about from DFW to NAS/JRB in Ft. Worth?

All Air Force inductees go through basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX.

I live down in SA right now. There are rental cars at the airport- Lackland isnt on that side of town. It's on the South west side (you would get on I410 west) and loop around town to that side - about 15 miles.

I am in San Antonio. What is the date you will be coming in? If your son is just going in then he will remain on base. If he is finishing his basic then they do get some time off and go and see the sights in SA.

Not clear what you are asking for. Ride from airport to Lackland only? Due to tightened security you can't just drive onto the base. You have to get passes that are time restricted. I am not even sure that you will be able to visit him.

Please describe what you are trying to do?

Parker,

I would like to go down to visit him I believe sometime in January 2008. I am not sure exactly what date, for he will have to tell me when or if he can receive a visitor. I should be able to get on base because I have what I call a get out of jail free card. Can PM you with an explaination. I am not sure what I am going to need, a ride, help, guidance, directions, until I find out when I can go.

Charlie, That is called preplanning and finding out your options before and not when it is too late.

When I went through basic there (43 years ago) there was absolutely NO visitors until graduation day. It could have changed. This should be covered during your sons orientation.

I went thru the federal schools in Virginia and Georgia and we were able to have visitors, but they had to check in and only in off times when we were not training. I am new to the Air Force and any and all rules they have. It was different in the DOJ I quess. All I know is, I want to see him when ever I can.

I went thru basic there,, and the whole idea of basic training is immersion in the process, which, thankfully was not long,(6 weeks). The only parental visitors allowed were those who picked up washouts. If he's going to do his tech school there, which would commence after a short break from basic, then by all means he can have visitors and come and go with impunity. G
