No, the MAF was checked out by injection labs, and was "OK". The car has no symptoms of a tired MAF, but knowing the lifespan of them I sent it out anyways.

OK, now I don't feel so good. This reads like my entire to do list. I have only done a fraction of this and will be spending the next 2 years and $$$$$ trying to finish what you have already done.

For now my focus is going to be on the mechanicals. In order:
intake R&R with replacement of all sensors and rubber bits and powdercoat,
brake R&R including front calipers, pads, lines, fluids, and rotors,
HVAC R&R under console to chase down a vac leak and possibly reseal any holes in the firewall,
motor mounts and oil pan gasket,
then x-pipe and maybe RMB if not too loud.

There are a lot of other things, but to me these are the big ones.

Done so far includes:
Trans fluid, filter and gasket change,
Oil and filter change
Heater control valve
engine vac lines replaced
Fuel lines replaced
valve cover removal with all gaskets replaced
Cam end cap seal pins replaced
head oil spring and ball R&R
Grounds cleaned

It is tough, I want everything to be done now and it is taking time and money that has to come from somewhere. But, the payoff is nice. BWAAAAAAA...............

Hopefully in a couple of years I will have my car as far along as yours barring the unforseen catastrophy.

Rob: my buddy was looking at your car to buy, but you were a step ahead. I don't think he would have had the stamina to do what you have done.
Otherwise: your list looks very familiar...

WOT switch (twice)
vacuum lines
flappy valve
all under intake lines
hardwired V-1
Y pipe for charcoal canister
fuel lines
intake powder coat
injectors (3 different sets now)
cam cover powder coat and reseal
TB, WP, all rollers, bearings, and rebuild of tensioner
cam, oil, and crank gears
cams timed to factory spec
recharge AC (ice cold r12)
oil pressure sender
Wheels and tires
murf stage 2 supercharger kit
JDS rebuilt MAF
Bilstein/eibach coilovers
coolant tank
Kevlar clutch, pressure plate, resurfaced flywheel, T/O bearing/pilot bearing (Motorsports SLC)
lomas (Motorsports SLC)crossover with cats
NBO2 sensor
RMB
Innovate motorsports WBO2 sensor and gauge
electronic fuel pressure sender
LMA-3 datalogging box (boost, injector duty cycle, rpm, WBO2, and fuel pressure)
Murf stage 3 supercharger kit upgrade
some stereo stuff
hardwired battery maintainer
Bosch 044 fuel pump with HD relay and wiring, new intank pump, filter

And a whole lot of little stuff along the way I probably forgot.....

Still need to get belly pans, and just keep up with maintenance.

Never, ever add up the receipts!

My list is pitifully small for 8 years...

I bought the car in 99. It needed nothing but oil changes for 2 years.
- Oil pressure sender (original failed in 2001)
- Rebuilt LH (original failed in 2002)
- Battery replaced 2002 (Autozone Duralast - still going strong)
- heater valve (original failed in 2003)
- Front and rear wheel bearings (just because one rear went out)
- Steering rack (wasn't leaking, but what the hey, it had 180K miles on it)
- Tie rods & lower balljoints - were fine, but same what the hey
- Rebuilt rear axles - were fine, but same what the hey
- Bilstein shocks
- MM & pan gasket (due to leaky gasket at 110k miles)
- Right sidetank on radiator x2 (one crack, one seal leak)
- New MAF (original was shorted by other 928er during intake experiments)
- Rear main seal (leaked after 20 dyno runs in 1 hour)
- RMB
- X-pipe (now gone)
- Usual maintenance including 3 TB & 2WP changes, plug/wires/cap/rotor
- 2 windshields
- 1 fuel injector (developed a leak in the body)

Rest were cosmetics (Jager shift **** & boot, Momo steering wheel, LED interior lights, clear turn signals and sidemarkers, 996 wheels) plus supercharger stuff.

Well, my turn. All dissasembled this weekend, nearly all related parts in transit, hope to complete within 3 weeks in one big WYAIT build-up ---

WP/TB/all gears/tensioner build/front main/ oil pump seal
Clutch slave
Upper balljoint kits; lower balljoints; A-arm bushings
Solid MM's + Solid steering mount bushings (hard job on jackstands)
4 Caliper rebuild kits
Pads and rotors, Front
Cam tower gaskets, o-rings, seals (am hoping head gaskets hold)
Distrib gear o-ring
Pan Gasket ( outstanding silicon unit, installed Sunday, nice )
Thermostat, o-ring, back seal; U + L Rad hoses; coolant cap
Fan switch
Linkage rebuild, including nylon bushings

Need to get a plan and order parts for exhaust, too. What a cobbled-up mess I have now.

So far, owned car 2 weeks, drove it 30 miles. (BTW, what's a PPI ? Just kidding. Now I know)

My list is a small subset of Bill's, as far as mechanical repairs and major maintenence go. Either 1989 was a great model year, we are great owner/maintainers, we are very lucky, or the fixit dam is about to burst. Hope it's not the last option.
