Default Post-Summit Point Club Race (John V's 928)

The PCA Club Race at Summit Point was held this weekend and John Veninger brought his 928 down to compete in the GT-2 class.

Took a couple of laps for his tires to heat up but when they did he was off. At Summit point there is a slower area after the carousel then an uphill right-hander up the hill. I think on his second or third lap there was a 911 on his butt through the turn and then the 911 moved over to pass. A second later John was gone. Funny thing is, the next lap the same 911 was on his butt again through the turn but didn't try to pass him again. It was obvious he was pulling away from the guys behind him and closing the gap with the leading cars.

John did very well and came in second in his class. First place gridded a few places in front of him due to funky qualifying session. I didn't take any pics but I wanted to start a thread so the pics could be posted.

Great job John

John C.,

I got that one on video! As soon as I can figure out how to convert it from Sony's proprietary format to something the rest of the world uses I'll post it.

I had a great time down there as well. JPTL makes a mean mushroom cheese burger! Thanks everyone!

Way to go John V.!! Glad to hear his car is back on track after munching his diff at Sebring. Really cool that John V. did so much of the engine/car buildup himself, very impressive!

Want to thank everyone who came out to support me during the race weekend.
I loved the long straight at SP, allowed the 928 to really stretch its legs

Had a great weekend until a part failure. I'll be posting that soon

Just curious, how many of those parts were bent? Or will you be waiting until they are easier to get to before you open it up? Sorry for the failure dude. Just think! NEW STUFF AGAIN!! How long until first Summit '08!!?

By the way, 2 INCHES of new pavement yesterday!! AND NO MORE CONCRETE!!! After 34 years!

How'd you bend the valves? Sorry to hear that.

No way... they finally paved the main course? Unbelievable. I've raced bikes there for several years and hated the surface, although the concrete had a ton of grip. Always loved that course, always hated the gorilla snot slick carousel and the bumps. Has to be a huge improvement.

John V.,
I was able to convert the video so I'll send the video of this failed pass attempt soon. I only got a few laps of warm-up and a few laps of the race (all of the carousel section). I would have liked to get the straight section, but we weren't over there and there's no real good spot to tape that.

That was great stuff.

PS- there's a thread over in the DE forum that has two vids of group 3. I think that was your run group on Saturday, but I didn't see you in the vid.
