Took a couple of laps for his tires to heat up but when they did he was off. At Summit point there is a slower area after the carousel then an uphill right-hander up the hill. I think on his second or third lap there was a 911 on his butt through the turn and then the 911 moved over to pass. A second later John was gone. Funny thing is, the next lap the same 911 was on his butt again through the turn but didn't try to pass him again. It was obvious he was pulling away from the guys behind him and closing the gap with the leading cars.

John did very well and came in second in his class. First place gridded a few places in front of him due to funky qualifying session. I didn't take any pics but I wanted to start a thread so the pics could be posted.

Great job John

Well, last was second in this race - two entries. Qualifying was f'ed up. I think someone spewed oil on the track so qualifying was shortened and John wasn't positioned well at the start.

Before John had engine problems he was gaining quickly on the leaders (GT2 1st was two places ahead). Mylaps shows he had the quicker lap time.

DNF is not 2nd place. He did have the 2nd fastest time in GT2S out of the 3 entries, and over all, 1:22 would have got him near 13th out of 22 finishers overall. I dont know the track, but know a couple of the drivers (Grenedy and Igor). looks like that 1:22 was pretty quick too only 4 seconds off the top times in the unlimited class on slicks.

In the first pic michaelathome posted, the black car in front is the one that pushed John off track.

Mark, he did not finish but they didn't dq the dnf cars. He got second out of 2. Also, he was just getting the hang of the carrousel and turn 9 before the backfiring started. I think he could've easily dropped a second or two after losing the traffic he was in the whole race.

Michael, the wp died in the first Saturday sprint.

Sometimes, depending on the racing rules, you can get a DNF, get no points and not a place, even if there is only 2 cars in a group. In SCCA racing its 50% of the laps. IM sure you are right about the 2nd though. he only fell short a few laps.

Here is summit point's website. It has maps of all 3 tracks (in Flash so I can't just post them here). Most of those pictures of the repaved track are the part at the bottom of the Main map.
