NOTE: The 1UZ-FE was voted to the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 1998 through 2000. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_UZ_engine.

I recall reading the 1UZ is ultra light too. Is the 1UZ V8 a weightloss transplant?

UZ-FE's are cheap anywhere. The damn things just don't break!
They are a good 200lbs lighter than a 928 with accessories.
Getting cheaper to get 400+ HP out of wo FI all the time & will rev pretty high! Nice sound with headers as well!

Did not realize how old this was. Only posted since I had seen a much nicer 928 swap to a UZ-FE recently.

INteresting linkage for the dual throttle plates...I've heard folks pining for that on here before.

What, exactly, is a 500hp turbocharger?

Must've been interesting mating to the torque tube.

It is a turbo that has shown to be able to produce roughly 500BHP on a number of different installs.

That is a 92HATE!

A pointless POS IMHO!

Kindly take it to some rice burning forum- not this one.

Now let me go and put these flames out!

Regards

Fred

I would agree that this is a mod most likely to gain traction with the Aussie crowd, where 928 parts would really give you sticker shock!

For several reasons I find a UZ-FE transplant much less objectionable than a Chevy Small Block but am certainly not hear to debate the merits of either.

I do like to read about what others get up -just don't like what they do to our noble 928's- kind of defeats the object!

My rant is about what they have done to a 928-not the post.

I dare say it may be a sad statistical fact of life that 928 engines dissappear at a rate faster than the chassis' gets crunched.

I dare say some clever chap could shoe horn a 12 litre Cummins diesel into a 928 hitched to a Massey Ferguson gearbox but what would be the point?

I hate hybrids!

Fred

I don't like the look of the install. With such a short engine it reminds me of a late model pick up truck where half the engine resides behind the firewall. When you pop the hood I want to be wowed by an engine not turbo plumbing.

I thought the same thing and thought Viper engine would look better fitted in the 928 bay.

The Lexus engine is a great engine, period. If the 928 transplant is not your cup of tea, at least he choose a great engine to use.

I have a 59 El Camino with one of these installed. 280 BHP and smooth as silk. Transformed that car into a daily driver for me and never has it let me down.

I agree that it is aesthetically not pleasing. Turbo plumbing is just not interesting as seeing a nice intake manifold... But the engine is a great engine... No doubt.

These hybrid projects are just a testimony to how good the 928's chassis and suspension still are. The 928 motor on the other hand does have a few design issues in my opinion. But I sure as hell wouldn't replace it!
