Default lowering the '82

I would like to lower the '82 as much as possible. Is it OK to cut the springs?
how much to cut? How low is too low for the track?

Specs call for 170mm. Some have gone as low as 150MM. The problem is when you set the ride hight under the specs the car begins to handle funny and feel heavy. Bump steer, tracking, and tie rod bind become an issue. Also hanging the alternator little closer to the pavement.............

But to answer your Q sure you can cut the springs. How much I don't know.

There is no problem with cutting the springs nor with bump steer being a factor.
cut out one full coil and that should put the ride hight right where you want it, plus stiffen the suspension up a little too.

i run at 110mm front and 140mm rear. the only issue is that the car is too low to roll over speed bumps and you have to keep a keen eye out for pot holes. however, the car handles like a dream! Its got a HUGE bump steer issue, but it doesnt seem to bother me at all.
