Hello 928 Fans,
I'm new to rennlist but an old war horse to 928's.
My name is Arthur and I'm the proud owner of a 1984 Euro 928 5-speed that has 5,000 original miles on it with a bit of a TWIST.
As a child my uncle had one of the first US 928's with phone dial wheels, no spoilers "NON S" and a 5spd. Then when my brother was sixteen he got a Euro 1981 928 S with a 5 speed, leather, and NO SUNROOF. That car was really cool and very fast. At this our uncle stepped up and bought a 1987 S4 with a 5 speed when they first came out. Shortlly there after my dad got into the swing with a Auto 928 s4. It was boring to drive but looked the best. It was really cool in silver full (dash doors headliner etc)white interior and chrome wheels though. In the mean time I drove my go kart and rode shot gun in all these 928's as a kid.
As time went I grew out of my go kart but not my love of the 928. So at the ripe old age of 19 I went out and bought one. Well 3/4's of one anyway. In what is a even longer story I came to purchase the car I now own. To any one who cares I would be happy to tell you how it came about, it is quite funny.
As for the car itself it is a 1984 European 928 that was sold new to Vittero Strosek where he completly trasformed the car into a widebody big engine hood countach sized rear wing freak!!!!
The car searved as his show car and was exhibited on the stand in Geneva in 1984. From there the car was sold to the US where it was used for only 4,982 miles before the car got into a hogh speed accident that completlly destroyed the right side of the car. It is in such perfect condition that it is rediculas. Litteraly it looks like new car sitting in a showroom that some one drove a truck into on one side!
So for what at the time, seven years ago, was cheap $8,000 I bought 3/4's of a $100,000 modified beast. My family thought I was crazy and the car has lived in a climate controlled garage ever since. I never fixed it and it now sites beside my "other toy" an all black 1986 countach that is one of 15 with a carburrated quatrovalve motor with 455 HP from the factory.
The question now is what to do with the car?
Do I:
A) Fix the car back to its original 84 Strosek build
B) Fix the car and do a full 10K repaint and have a concourse 928
C) Fix the car and update it to the more modern strosek/Jacqumond look
D) Leave it alone looking like an extra from the movie MAD MAX and hang it on the wall above my other cars to always remind me NEVER BUY A PROJECT CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NEVER NEVER NEVER

Welcome aboard Arthur.
Ah, what many of us wouldn't do to be in your 'predicament' <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" /> .
I'm sure you'll get a variety of suggestions from the folks here.
How about a few pictures?

Hi Arthur:
I am always excited about 928s with an interesting history. So, if it was mine, I would restore it back to how Vittorio Strosek designed it. Maybe one of the Porsche publickations will be interested, once it's fixed. Important (in my opinion) is to document the damage and the repair process, though.
Whatever you decide: Best of luck!
And please, show us some pictures of the car with exterior, interior, and the damage...

Hi Arthur,
I guess in my exuberance to see pictures of the car (basically agreeing with Nicole)
I didn't put much thought into your REAL question....
If it were my car, this would be my approach:
1st choice - return the car to the original '84 Strosek build. Especially IF you have
concrete documentation that this IS the actual Geneva show car, as this car WITH that
documentation has some historical significance to go along with it's unique appearance.
2nd choice - repair the car with the currently available Strosek body parts. This may
end up being easier as exact replacement panels (circa 1984) may prove to be impossible
to obtain, unless Strosek will make them for you....
3rd choice - my last resort would be an attempt to return the car to Porsche "factory
original" appearance. It may be VERY difficult, time-consuming, and expensive to try
to actually return this car to strict concours standards depending on modifications
made that are not visually apparent on the surface. Not worth the time or expense
when you consider the "real world $ value" of an '84 model 928, even a 95 point or better
concours car.
This is a custom car from day one, from probably the most notable 928 tuner in Europe.
It *is* a special car.... keep it that way!

These folks may help you decide. They seem to know the value of Strosek's work.

Sorry my vote wasn't clear...my vote is to restore it to the Original Strosek condition. Not everyone can have one of these but can a stock 928 s.
