Default machine shop pricing / polish & porting questions

Hi does any one know any good machinist in San Diego? I just took off my intake manifold "probably lost a **** ton or fasteners and broke crap need help putting it back on" I am considering taking off my cylinder heads "i am probably pushing my luck really far". I kind of want the cylinder heads ported, polished and bowled, and possible have the throttle body ported. Also resurfaced. Does any one have any price quotes from the people you took your stuff to? I want a little bit more power then the stock engine but I really want to make sure the valves are not cracked or bent. Also has any one ever polished and ported their cylinder heads, throttle body, and intake manifold themselves with a dremil or dotcho? Is any thing needed to be done to the computer if I get all that polished / ported? Is their any one in the san diego area that has nothing to do on the weekends and wants to help me fix my Porsche?
thanks, dan

There are a few shops in LA that do some 4V japanese stuff, and I think I would trust them.

But you could "borrow" these two boxes I made to ship heads safely, and ship them to a great place a few of us know in Green Bay. Great work, trustworth people, and better prices than you would find around here for any real work, even with the shipping charges.

devek? precision motorwerks? do a google and they'll pop up. g brown pulled over 400chp out of a set of 85/86 heads w/some bottom end work. devek has done some pretty amazing stuff too. but what's the point if you are keeping it to 5L? are you going to do anything that would require the extra breathing?? ie blower/stroking/etc?

How much experience do you have when it comes to complex auto repair? I'm not talking about tune ups and break jobs but more like engine swaps and rebuilds?

Ah .."I kind of want the cylinder heads ported, polished and bowled, and possible have the throttle body ported. Also resurfaced " all that is done to fix heads which do not flow well like an old Chevy or a Mustang. Your S-4 heads and valves ALREADY flow very, very well. And bigger is NOT always better. You could probably gain more power by changing camshafts (if you have a 5 speed) than you could gain with porting and polishing. In fact the 4 valve heads flow so well that a guy in San Diego uses them on modified big block Chevy engines !!!

slap on some devek L1 or msds headers. 4rwhp
xpipe - 8 rwhp
get a 928sp blackbird 12 rwhp
sharktune a custom chipset for the above - 8rwhp

go enjoy!

anything more will take an order of magnatude more time and $$. ie more displacement or a blower. but the ca smog nazies are an issue w/the blower unless you don't mind pulling it every 12-24 mos for the test... if you really need some more mojo - slap on a 75hp NOS kit and go have fun. just my opinon.

At least for now, it looks like it's still every 24 months, AB616 has been put to rest in this session thanks to a good push by the enthusiasts:
