I guess I left myself open for that one. But I cannot complain about my situation. I have a 928 and a 66 Jaguar E-Type, both came after the marriage. I keep telling her that it's better than an affair. I guess she buys it.

Seriously though, I have 2 kids - 3yr boy, and 1yr girl. At those ages it's tough to leave them with her while I go and play. In a couple of years thay can all join me if they want or not. So until then, I have to be a bit patient. <img src="graemlins/yltype.gif" border="0" alt="[typing]" />

Andrew:

Hear ya loud and clear. I've got a 4yr, 2yr, and 3mos old. The older two now enjoy rides in the shark and can say POR-SHA, although they usually just say "race car". The wife and I have trade offs.....I get to play with the car (either working on it or hanging out with Doz) and she gets to catch movies with her girlfriends.

ANYWAY, Doz and I are indeed planning on doing the Dream Cruise. Not sure where we'll meet up, but my hope is that we can figure on a spot that has traffic actually moving over 2mph.

I did it last year and enjoyed comments from the crowd like "Dude, yer car cost more than this whole lane of traffic." Ahhhhhh. Little do they know.

3 (or more) sharks in a row ought to cause quite a stir.

If anyone else is gonna be in Detroit on August 17, let us know!

FOR THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE EVENT:

The Cruise gets about 30,000 classic cars and over 1 million spectators:

<a href="http://www.carnuts.com/Event_Coverage/woodward_2000_cruise.htm" target="_blank">Woodward Dream Cruise Photos</a>

Normal cruising speed is usually well south of the speed limit.

One of the often overlooked advantages of the 928 compared to some other play cars is the back seats. I can take my 3 kids on adventures and they love it. When one of my kids went to camp for a week, the others were excited that our temporary family of four could drive around in the p-car all week. The perfect family car.

When people start assuming that 928 ownership is part of a male mid-life crisis or some sort of private parts enhancement therapy, they don't have a clear picture. My wife enjoys driving the car, my kids love it, I enjoy the family sharing and the pride of working on the car myself. I can afford the car at my age now, and had I owned this type of performance car when I was in my irresponsible 20's, I would have probably died in the car.

When my wife comes home after driving the 928 and points out the number of people who "checked her out" while she was driving, I tease her by saying that "to know if people are checking you out in the car, you must be looking at them to see if they're looking at you. Ego queen."

The car has brought a fun element to the family for all to enjoy. Now, if I can just get my wife to quit barking the tires all the time

Jerry, I think if anyone deserves an award for the most work do to a 928 you and your 928 are front-runners. The corner lights look very nice.

I agree this would look nice on silver; I just have a few other things to work on first. I need to have a few door dings fixed, I am hoping to find a good place that does Paint-less Dent Removal (PDR. Than have the nose, mirrors and anything the PDR guy messes up repainted.

Of course this will have to wait till I get some of the mechanical bugs worked out.

Cheers

I blame the movie Middle Aged Crazy with Bruce Dern and Ann Margaret for this. I was 18 when i saw that movie on TV. It was one of my earlier recollections of seeing a Porsche 928. It only served to reinforce the fact the I wanted one. I wanted the Porsche too.

Talking

WhoooHooooo! <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Talked to the wife last night, and she's letting me out to play at the Dream Cruise on Saturday! I only get a half a day, but heck, that's better than no day! Doz, Big Dave, and anyone else, have you guys picked a time and place to meet up? Let me know, I so want to go, but I really want to go with other 928's <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" /> !

(Guess who wears the pants here? <img src="graemlins/r.gif" border="0" alt="[king]" /> )

GREAT! My wife said she wants to sit this one out, so I'm free to do the Cruise whenever you guys are.

Send me an email to davesq2001@hotmail.com and I'll give you directions, etc.

Max, here you go. this is from one of my earlier posts. I got the headlamps new from a place in British Columbia ($297.00 USD). Shipping was minimal and delivery was fast.

You are right. They are a must!

The following link helped me choose the bulbs:

<a href="http://www.roversnorth.com/wwwboard/messrr/47823.html" target="_blank">http://www.roversnorth.com/wwwboard/messrr/47823.html</a>

The following link is where I purchased the bulbs (Hella 78150):

<a href="http://www.rallylights.com/hella/xenon_bulbs.asp" target="_blank">http://www.rallylights.com/hella/xenon_bulbs.asp</a>

Here is where I bought the Bosch 8" H4 headlamps:

<a href="http://www.bowwow.ca/contact/headoffice.htm" target="_blank">http://www.bowwow.ca/contact/headoffice.htm</a>

I spoke with a guy named Jeff. The part # is 34-1305333904

Tel. 604-594-4300 (They are located in British Columbia)

They don't keep them as part of their stock, but they can get them. The whole thing took a week from start to finish.

Great info! I have been looking into this bulb issue for some time and have had a hard time making up my mind.

Was that $297.00 USD "each" or for the "pair" of head lights? Boy if that was for both, I'd say this is quite a deal! 928Spl. (8" EURO H4 Headlight assemblies" - $245 each). I'm not sure we are comparing apples to apples as they used the word "assemblies" in their add which could mean the head light bucket and hardware? If anyone knows the answer to this one, please chime in.

Do you remember which bulbs you bought?

78150 - Replacement H4 (HB2) Bulb, XENON, 12V, 60/55W, Premium Plus 30% $10.43 Each

78151 - Replacement H4 (HB2) Bulb, XENON, 12V, 60/55W, Premium Plus 50% $11.55 Each

Has anyone on the list replaced the H3 bulbs in their fog or driving lights?

Max, that $297.00 is for the pair (best deal around as far as I am concerned). That price may vary depending on the exchange rate.

These are the bulbs I purchased:

78150 - Replacement H4 (HB2) Bulb, XENON, 12V, 60/55W, Premium Plus 30% $10.43 Each

They make a great pair!

All you do is add the bulbs and drop them (the headlamps) into their cradles (that "U" shaped gizmo that holds them) and aim. It's all one piece. Later models will require adapters (H5 connectors are different than H4).

Well, I called Bow Wow (pro-parts) to order a set and Patrick my friend; you are in the ranks of the “lucky ones”. Bosch has since discontinued the part number that your lamps were sold under. They of course have superceded that one with a "New" part number with a "New" price of 355.00 "each"! I don’t have to tell you what hit the floor when I heard that I had a feeling a year ago, I should have just done it

Jeff is going to check around and see if he can find a set with the older part number at the old price, what a guy!

I did however get the bulbs from Rally lights, all great people, they even gave we the NAPA part number for the H-4 conversion plug (LS6446). I ordered the 78151 - Replacement H4 (HB2) Bulb, XENON, 12V, 60/55W, Premium Plus 50% and a set of 100 watt H3’s for the driving lights for a total with shipping of $39.76 (USD) what a deal!

Now if I can just get my hands on a set of those knife edge lamps!

Thanks Patrick

Tony, glade to see you’re in, keep up the great work.

Ouch! That hurts! keep in mind that $355.00 Canadian = $233.00 USD. However, that brings them up close to what you can find them for here in the states.

I must have got lucky. I purchased them in April. It wasn't that long ago. Keep in touch with Jeff. He seems like a nice guy. He may be able to find something for you.
