no what that was is caliper cleaner i'm not sure if you can see it in the picture but if you look closely the caliper is painted red i bought a kit that included the cleaning spray (basically thinner in a spraycan) in it and it turned out pretty good i'm impressed with the finish

eh lets not even go there lol lets just say i was at it with a shop vac for over an hour its better now but the dash needs to be replaced because of cracks and the front seats could use some re upholstering other than that some new body clips and a few screws here and there and it will be better

ok so now im really questioning the reliability of my motor i started it to move it today and i leave it in 1st so i dont grind i gave it some gas and left a nice 10ft burnout mark in my driveway which was cool btw but i moved it to put another car in the garage to fix and when i was finished with the car i wanted to move the 928 back but this time when i started it there was a lot of smoke coming out of the rear and my coolant light came on the smoke was white so im just hoping i dont have to replace the headgasket because im sure that would be a pain should i just consider looking into a new/rebuilt motor or fix the one i have keep in mind it has 219k on it

White smoke + overheating is baaaaaad mojo. Pull the dipstick and look for milk. Take off the oil fill cap and look for goo on the bottom. Remove the coolant cap and smell the canister for oil, look for oil residue in the coolant tank. Get a coolant pressure tester. Pull the plugs and look for one that is very white, or clean compared to the rest. perform a compression test. Look for bubbles in the coolant when the engine is running and the coolant cap is off.
If all else fails, rent a trailer, put the car on it, drive it to TX and leave on my front law with the title signed over. QED.

Well in the photo it looks like a clean straight early 928 - no body side moldings or spoilers to spoil the origninal classic 928 lines. Original phone dials too, nice.
Choose your battles. No 928 is financially worth restoring, you have to love the car. Maybe you want to love one in better condition - but that's always a bit of a gamble.

Kinda high w/ an overheated motor and bad interior. Without a good runner or nice insides, it's pretty much a parts car or track car rolling chassis.
Where do you think 928 International gets all those parts? They dismantle cars like yours and even nicer ones. We (928 Intl's customers) on the other hand, we like to save them and restore them.
You have tons of cool options:
Get another 80-83 US-spec 928 keep this one for parts.
Keep this one, get another 80-83 parts car.
Get a used motor / rebuild this one / get lucky and this one just needs gaskets, clutch, etc.
Swap in Euro top end with those new gaskets.

When I do score another 928 - probably one similar to yours, knowing my budget - I know I will have many hard decisions to make between a) OEM Porsche coolness and everyday driveability, and b) hardcore track setup.
Track cars are so simple: rip out the interior, touch up the paint with a rattle-can, and spend all your benjamins on tires, brakes, suspension, and practice, practice, practice! Remember the most important mod by far is tightening up the nut behind the wheel.

I just boggles my mind how quickly people will throw things away; I am exceptionally jealous of your fortune in finding such a deal. Where I live, its a 14hr drive to the nearest city where I *MIGHT* find a 928, and certainly never at the prices seen in so many places in the US.
Right now, even with exchange, the bargains from the US would automatically cost me an extra $2k in transport/paperwork etc.
I know that the economics of repair vs buy better are very much in favor of buying rather than fixing; however, I have found that my 928 parts are MUCH cheaper than most newer vehicles (even palin old P.O.S. chebbies & furds), and I do all my own wrenching.
<rant>
I also have an 82 Toyota Supra, a car that share a lot of parts with the Celica, 100's of K of which were built between 82 & 85, yet almost every part I need is special order, and many NLA. Even when I get the parts, they are often MORE expensive than 928.
The more of these wundercars are kept on the road, the more reason the aftermarket has to keep producing parts.
Think about it!
