Default Huge ITE field for SCCA Laguna Seca Race on Sept 28-29 2007

The field just keeps on growing. As i had mentioned before, its the Speed World Challenge of older cars. Its one of the largest ITE (anything goes with a production vehicle and DOT tires) fields ever assembled at Laguna Seca

So far we have:
9 porsches, a few from the NW region with times near 1:24-6 at PIR
(including scot and me in the 928s)
5 cameros or vets C4, C5, 550hp cameros, etc
2 beefy Vipers
1 supercharged S2000
1 very fast M3 (possibly 2 if david smith shows up)
and 2 mustangs just to name a few of the 25 cars signed up for this double race weekend at Laguna Seca.

Since i know the vipers, and they are bonified fastest,
I give them 1-2 barring mechanical issues
3rd, probably the S2000, but he might be beatable here.
4-10th place up for grabs with the (2) vets, (2) BMW M3s (2) 928s, porsche GT3 cup, and the camaro

And, we have two full races this next weekend with this field.

should be fun as long as we can keep the cars safe!

Mark

the viper from last year, Manny Coats! video from the 550hp 4x4 evo driven by K.Jordan.
This thing is a BEAST! Anderson, you better get some laps in at laguna, or this guy could be a problem for you in late October if you decide to run ITE SCCA and not the PCA race at Sears!

Mark:

I'm planning on coming but can only do one day. Which would be best?

Aren't there going to be some other 928s besides you and Scott? Regardless, I'll be there and hope to bring a bunch of Norcal928ers.

we have a race on saturday at 10:30am and a race on sunday late in the day, near 3pm.

The big 928 event will be the last race of the season at Laguna the following month.

I would think the best day to come for this next weekends events would be on saturday, were we have a morning qual and afternoon race. However, both days have a race, so its your choice. I would come to watch the GT1 race too. a few vipers in that group as well as some GT3 cups from the NW adn local.
that is group 3. We are in Group 1

thats the 550hp 4x4 Evo. This is the car that could challenge mark anderson if they both show up at the laguna event at the end of october.

Well if you had 6 928's on the track each trying to pass each other... it might be pretty difficult for the EVO to make it through the pack..

true, but you have to qualify ahead of him

Did you see some of your porsche buddies from your last NW SCCA ITE race are coming down? looks like a pack of people coming down for this even next weekend. I saw one of the 911s in one of your races at PIR was running 1:25 or something. i think i counted like, 5 of them in our ITE race and a few more in the GT2 race.

Another Viper just signed up. Now, we have 3 vipers, 2 vets, 2 s2000s, 2 928s, 2 M3s, 1 camaro and a mustang in a pear tree. (among a few other fast cars too)

25 cars signed up for ITE with 44 in the group all together.

Scot and I are on our way out first thing tomorrow AM .

Laguna Seca!!!!

Update??? How did the race go? Did the Vipers conquer all or did the Holbert car still have a few tricks up it's sleeve.

We had a great time. the 928s did very well, and ran some of our fastest times to date. Scot ran 1:41.8 in the race and I finally broke into the 1:38s at 1:38.9 in qualifying. I used a newer set of garbage can tires, from '05 and they seemed to stick pretty well. (used them at Sears too).
The vipers all showed up, 3 competition coupes, and 3 GTS vipers, one with near 600hp.

It looked like a SCCA vs Porsche club weekend, as there was a 10 car group that came down from Portland assisted and supported by what turned out to be the "Jerry Woods" of the northwest. (very fast porsches)

In the first race, we had 10 cars in the 1:39s. the illegal competition coupe viper set a new track record at 1:32.xx , but he seemed to know how to drive that moster ride, and was practicing for the world challenge race in a few weeks. The problem, the other vipers were getting pop'ed for sounds, as some of our run groups were in the 101db range, but were even having issues with the 103db limit for most of our sessions. I ended up 5th, after gridding up 7th behind the 4 vipers, camaro, S2000supercharged, and had some world challenge touring cars behind me along with Wardlow in the Gold C5Vet racer and a few very fast 911s from Oregon.

First race was pretty tough, but exciting. very close racing.
The second race was a little different, the vipers didnt want to upset the ITE points race, plus there has been SCCA discussions of the legality of the Viper compeititon coupe and GT3 porsche cup car. This put a couple vipers to the back of the field to run, and i think it eliminated the cup car as he had slicks on and was turned away by the steward. The second race also was the end of the very fast 911 who got into the 1:37s, but ended up bitting off a little too much of turn 4 and ended up backing into the wall destroying the car.

I was able to finish ahead of the mighty vet even though now, we are running the same times. If he beats me in both of the last final races at laguna at the end of october, we tie for the championship.

Ill post some pics tomorrow.

Thanks for thinking of us Mark. It sounds like every thing might be riding on how you qualify next month. I found out today I might not make it on the 27th. Really pisses me off. I hope someone get's some good video.
