Aftermarket Keyless Entry
Has anyone installed one before?
Which brands are easiest to install?
For the curious, I've got an 85 S.

I take it you mean remote door lock/unlock, as you get with a decent alarm system.
6 months ago I had a Clifford Concept 500 alarm fitted to my car (1986 Euro 928S2) which gives you a key fob with lock/unlock buttons. Works great, apart from the hatch I haven't had to put a key in a door lock since It was fitted.
The alarm itself is top quality and has already paid for itself by scaring off someone before they got into the car (saved the stereo and a lot of interior damage). They caused a bit of paint damage on the door but as I have mentioned in other threads the car is due a repaint anyway.
But in relation to your question the coolest thing with the Clifford is that it is a modular system and you can add other modules. One which gives you remote control of the electric windows. There's one which even lets you remote start the car, so that it is nice and warm before you have to leave the house! Also if you have this one fitted it's smart enough to start the engine to top up the battery if the car has been sitting for a while and the battery is running low! Great or what!
The base system I have fitted was approx $700. additional modules are roughly $300.
Cheers

I'm satisfied with the current alarm (the car is always in secure parking lots anyway), so I was just looking for a remote lock/unlock system. Something that flashed the lights or honked the horn to confirm operation would be preferred.
Thanks for any info!

Fair enough. I would check your alarm manufacturers and see if they have a remote locking upgrade. I have not seen stand alone remote lock operation that wasn't tied into an alarm.

Dave, I've got that on my list of things to spend money on at some point, so if someone gives you the answer off-list, I'd apprediate it if you would forward it to me as well. I'm in the same boat, don't need anything more than the factory alarm, but would like keyless entry.

When I had my 87S4, I removed the factory alarm and had a DEI Python system installed to perform:
- remote lock/unlock
- flash running lights and chirp for arm/disarm
- glass break sensor
Additionally, the Python (and most other systems) can be rigged to control windows and starter as well.
DEI has a toll free tech support line for their licensed installers and seem to have knowledge of the 928 wiring nuances.

I got a response from another site about the Prestige keyless entry system. As best I can tell, it's simple to install, flashes the parking lights, and costs about $45.
If I find one in a store, I'll let you know.

Big Dave:
Looks like an Audiovox product, Prestige APS45 - here's their website:
http://www.audiovox.com/cgi-bin/ncom...t?prrfnbr=3734
They say Al and Ed's Autosound and Goodguys carry it if you have one of those in your area
Looks like Electronics Express has it for $69 on line.
If you wind up doing it, let me know how the install is and if there are any problems. Thanks.

I recently installed a Keyless Entry on my '94 928GTS, this was a supplement
to the factory alarm and has no alarm features itself. I used a Commando
KL455 (see <a href="http://www.commandoalarms.com/itmidx11.htm" target="_blank">http://www.commandoalarms.com/itmidx11.htm</a> ) this is available
direct & via some distributors (I found mine cheaper this way) and even on
ebay from time to time (new retail).
Even from the manufacturer direct its only about $45, I got mine for $39
This is a pretty basic system but it comes with 2 x 4 button remotes with 3 O/P
channels & a panic button.
I configured it to open the doors with one button (double press opens the hatch
too), lock the door with the 2nd button, open the hatch alone (alarm suspend
mode) with the 3rd button & panic on the 4th. It has some programmable
features & works pretty well. Can still use the keys as an alternative if needed
& it works fine with the factory alarm.
Installation wasn't too hard after you locate the factory alarm (it wandered around
the car during model year transitions - mine is under the passenger seat). Most of
the connections you need are right there - except for the hatch opener which
needs to be routed.
You can set this model to either honk the horn, flash the lights or both on lock/unlock
Alan
PS this module has an alarm like flashing LED for when its has locked the doors - it also
has a 'valet mode'... this seems a bit redundant & I assume shows this is really just a
defeatured alarm system. I did actually use the flashing LED with a larger LED as a more
visible alarm indicator (center of dash).

The guy who had the 928 before my had a cobra alarm fitted and he was so pleased with the results he had the unsightly door locks welded up smoothed off and painted. they look fantastic.
