I have a 1981 Yamaha XS 650. I haven't been working on the shark much lately because the bike currently looks something like this:

It's actually pretty far along now, thanks to my helpers in the photo. Since the picture, I stripped the frame and it is now a very nice satin black. Engine and carbs are back in, rear suspension and steering head are on. Next bit of fun will be getting the electical system back together.

Great way to learn how to wrench without destroying the Porsche. And motorcycle parts are so freakin' cheap compared to the car!

Just browsing and I noticed this thread-- I bought an 81 yamaha xs650 about 2 months ago and have rebuilt the carbs and am now waiting on a new coil (accel) and then hopefully it will fire up. A little too late for riding here in Il but ya never know.

d richard: a little off topic, but if you haven't found it yet, there is a great mail list for the xs 650:

<a href="http://www.yamaha650society.com/new_page_8.htm" target="_blank">YAM650 list</a>

Or you can read it online at the archive site:

<a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/YAM650-archive/?yguid=111053087" target="_blank">Archive</a>

I love my '81, but some things just had to go - the bars have been swapped for Euros and I'm building up the courage to carve into the big fat seat to make it a little leaner.

95th anniversary Fat Boy, burgandy/silver. Less than 1000 miles per year, but every one of 'em enjoyable.

Thumbs up

Hey I'm not surprised to find a small crowd of bikers here. It's like a quick tour of what to do with / on 2 wheels... <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

How come most of you skimp on your riding? <img src="graemlins/nono.gif" border="0" alt="[nono]" />

Cool

I think there is some natural connection between bikers and 982's. Last March, I decided to keep the old CB clean and instead drove my black '85 S2 up to Daytona Beach for a day during bike week. I got nothing but thumbs ups-

N!

Bought my son a Honda Z50 when he was 9. Bought myself a Suzuki ATV at the same time. The ATV is for utility and rec. use. We ride together and it's a blast. I've considered a dirt bike to ride with him, but my back is toast from compression fractures when I was in my 20's (ALWAYS properly jack and support you car before going under it! ask my how I know!)

Hi Gang,

Fun thread, nice to see so many 928ers who have cool bikes also !!!

I started riding dirt bikes at age 9. Currently Jeannie and I both ride dirt, Dual Sport and Sportbikes.

My current bikes are :
1998 Honda VTR1000 Superhawk (tons of torque like my 928s).
2002 Honda XR650R with Baja Designs Dual-Sport Lighting Kit and HRC parts.
1976 Honda TL250 Trails bike, museum quality without a scratch.
1976 Honda TL250 Trails bike, NOT museum quality with lots of scratches.

Jeannie's curent Bikes :
1989 Honda NT650 Hawk GT
2003 Honda CRF230F soon to have Baja Designs Dual Sport lighting Kit.

Question

Slightly OT
David,
Do you or Jeannie ever ride vintage trials on the "used" TL250? Two events up here in Ohio, very well attended.... The earlier one has many Canadians show up!

I've been riding for 25 years on 4 cylinder 4's... Kaw's, Sazooks, even a Honda for a brief period. Currently riding a 99 Kaw ZRX1100 with 130 ponies (cams, pipe, jets, etc). Have done a few track days on it and plan to do a bunch more next year.

Pleasant surprise to see this thread on motorcycles among us 928 owners. I still have my 1980 Suzuki GS450ET, though in pieces in the garage, which I will put together someday. My first taste for speed came on this bike and I fell in love with speed and the racing scene, both with bikes and automobiles. After a 18-year hiatus, I rented a 2002 Honda Interceptor 800, and rode to Laguna Seca for the World Superbike Championships this past Summer. The ride was a dream come true starting from San Francisco and riding down the infamous Pacific Coast Highway to Monterey. I am in the process of trying to convincing my wife that I need a two-wheel adrenalin machine to keep my heart pumping, but she always tells me that it has four wheels and is waiting for me in the garage.
