yokohama ES100...road noise

I've used a couple of sets of Goodyear F1 GS-D3 17" tires. Got a well used set on my GTS right now. They're great tires, except I did have a problem with one during an open road race. Fortunately, I didn't lose tire pressure, but it's a little unnerving to lose a 3" chunk of tread at 155 mph. Corvette crowd really favors them.

I had to either get the Yokohama or Continentals.....so I got the Yokos AVS-ES100's.
At first drive, they were VERY slippery - cold 38 and warm 44psi. I dropped them to 36psi cold and they seemed to grip much better. Fun run yesterday proved I could stay with the 911's and 993's on the twisties. VERY twisty roads....loads of fun. Next year, I hope to find a good place to attach my small vid camera.
We'll see how the tires do over the next year... Would like to get 17's, but can't afford the switch.

I found that I had to drop to 30F/28R(cold) to get the best traction out of the ES100's. Verified even temps across the tire on mountain twisties nearby... This with 17's, with 16's you might have to experiment. 36 is too high IMHO.

Thanks. I can't say anything about the fronts yet. The fronts still have my S03's...they're ok for another 6 mos or so. It was just time to replace the rears. Yep, they're 16's, so the preferred psi range will be slightly different than your 17's.
Well, I'm actually used to running about 40psi in the rears (Pilots, RE750, and S02), so 36 was a decent drop for me......but may not be enough for these ES100's.
Does anyone have any experience with 16's and the ES100's? I'd be curious to know what others have as their psi preference.

I'm on my second set of ES100s. I like them well enough but I need to keep the pressures down (about 32psi all around) to keep them from bouncing around. Also, this set took a while to acquire since Tire Rack said that Yoko had discontinued them. I don't notice any excessive noise but I have a RMB which pretty much drowns out everything. BWAAAA!

The issue is most all those "agressive" tread patterns have the M + S label on the side.......They are snow tires and snow tires make a LOT of noise. Plus all the open space between lugs is just LESS rubber to grip the road sure on a street tire you need SOME gaps to allow water to get away but the vast majority of the tread design is for LOOKS ONLY because LOOKS is what sells tires . Frankly if you are not going to be driving 150 MPH there is no point buying tires which are rated for that speed !
