shift plate for automatic
Does someone knows if the shift plate of a 1991 is the same for a 1979 shark ? My slider plate is broken and someone is offering me a used auto complete shift plate and i would like to know if it fits before buying it.
thanx

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think they are the same, just the earlier ones having different numbering as they had a 3 speed auto instead of a 4 speed. Heres an option: buy the full leather shift boot from 928 Specialists (928gt.com) for $40 and replace that whole assembly. Thats what I'm planning on doing quite soon. For an addition $5 they will color match the leather too.

The shift plate is the same operation, just 2 3 D instead of 1 2 D.
We now offer a COMPLTE auto shift plate drop in replacement, in Aluminum or Stainless. No assembly required. Or we can supply a 3 speed shift plate cover (non-cutout letters).
The shift plate is a design feature that looks great when accented in SS or Aluminum. We suggest that it not be covered completely with a pillowy boot.
You may visit our website for details.

Paul Jager (Shark_gts), you have created a bit of a dilemma on this one.
928 Specialists (an official Rennlist Sponsor) offers a custom product that appears to compete with one developed by Jager Engineering (not yet a Rennlist Sponsor).
Anyone have suggestions on how to best preserve the benefits of Sponsorship while maintaining the free exchange of information on products and services?

I think most of us can see the difference between the intent to inform, and the intent to sell something or promote one's business. Sponsors should be protected.
Paul's post and link to his retail website does seem a bit promotional for a non-sponsor.
Sponsors should be able to post their retail web address, non-sponsors should refrain.
A non-sponsor's post could be:
"The shift plate is the same operation, just 2 3 D instead of 1 2 D. " (period)
A sponsor's post would be more in line with Paul's as seen above.
A retailer or manufacturer should be able to defend themselves with acurate information as in the DEVEK thread a few months ago. Even if DEVEK was not a sponsor, they would have the right to set the record straight, as they see it. But there still would be no need for a link to the retail website.
If someone is mis-informing readers of a Jagger Eng. product, we would all benefit from Paul filling us in on the proper info, but a link to the website should be a sponsor's privilage only.
If a Rennlister posts a web address for us to check out like in the Speedhut situation, that's fine. It's in the spirit of sharing information. The poster gets no material gain form posting the address or talking up the product.
Picky? maybe. Therin lies the benefit of becoming a Rennlist sponsor.
My thoughts, anyway.

A bit of a dilemma, I suppose. Perhaps Paul should consider becomming a sponsor (although I have no idea what that costs...)
Paul is an engineer with the resources to manufacture small quantities of unique 928 accessories. I don't know how he makes any real money off of this venture - I think it just demonstrates his passion for these cars. He seems to be a man of integrity, and is rightfully proud of his designs. I think if the board administrator took this issue off-line to him, an understanding could be established.
In the mean time, I think it is healthy to have competition while providing us with alternatives.
Gregs's suggestions are valid and could provide members with appropriate guidelines.

Thank's guys for the infos and sorry if a dilemma happened. For my shift plate i would like to preserve the original thing, what i need is the slider plate alone and it does'nt seem to be available anymore so i checked to change the complete shift plate but i'll have another problem =2 3 D instead of 1 2 D, but is the slider plate alike?

There is no doubt that servicing the specialty market for the 928 is a difficult one. For example I've heard a lot of complaints about 928Intl prices, but I totally understand their pricing. There is a lot of overhead that goes into their business to have parts waiting when you need them.
We have a couple of things on our side that so far have made the venture into the market at least cover our costs. I have not analyzed the numbers in too much detail but it's around there.
Our highly skilled but low Canadian labour costs (we work for Cdn Pesos), tight control of overhead, very quick design to market, and high quality products have made us successful for the 2-3 years we've been servicing 928 owners.
And you are right - our passion for and appreciation for the great design of the 928 inspires the development. We are grateful to those owners who have supported our work and we look forward to advancing the art of type 928 in the future. The 928 is simply too good to leave alone.
We do have some budget for adverts so I'll have to see about sponsorship. We are Renn Members but being a new regular here didn't think of the sponsor rules when posting etc. Next time I'll just post the pictures!

Paul, if you are a paid-up Rennlist Member, why did you not request that designation be added by posting in the 'Got "Rennlist Member"...' topic at the top of this Forum?
