I might be finished with the S4 restoration
I have had my current car almost 3 years now, and I think I am finally there.
1987 S4 5 speed, lsd, 113k miles with no signs of abuse and torture. Just needing of a whole maintenance cycle.
-pan gasket, motor mounts
-new shocks, springs (Bilsteins and Hypercoil 600/400 from Carl)
-new radiator, cooling fans, water pump, timing belt, cam sprockets, reblt tensioner.
-"full monte" under hood done: intake and cam covers off and everything refreshed under there. Knock sensors, wot switch, plug wires, cap/rotors etc.
-New paint to make up for a mediocre respray by the p.o.
-New fluids all around of course.
-new battery, clutch master, windshield.
-all new fuses and relay$.
-Some upgraded parts: sport seats, GTS shift ****, GTS brakes, 33 bar bias, drilled rotors, GTS aero mirrors, custom 18" CCW wheels, H4 euro headlights, lomas X pipe, GT resonators, tinted windows, clear front marker lenses.
-and countless other small things ...
A/C is still R12 and is cold, odometer gear replacement and working now. Car runs great, runs cool, sounds great, everything works like it should...928 motoring nirvana.
I owe many countless thanks to Dave Chamberland for all his meticulous work on the car, Rick 3452 for all the use of his lift, and several years ago Rixter for a used hood and Don Taylor for his hospitality.
What a long process to put everything right again...but one drive makes me feel that it was all worth it. Absolutely great cars when running 100%.
"making the trip to SITM...Priceless" Also having great friends like the 928ers here is priceless too.
Now I will have to wait for the next items...torque tube? wheel bearings? I'll wait..

Thanks Z.
I forgot to mention the prior 2 year resto of my last car, an '89 a/t black on black. Thanks again to Dave C and Rick3452 as well for that car. 5 years total of chasing stuff to end up with a proper 928... I need a beer or 2.

Carl-
That car is very nice. You should be very proud of it. I like the subtle changes you've made to it. Very stealthy, very aggressive, very cool!
One of the things that makes Carl's car look so good, in case you didn't notice, is that there are no side markers. No bumperettes either.

Carl's picture above was from before his machine polish of a few weeks ago. The black beast was at my house over the weekend and wow is it shiny!
You guys need to convince Carl that there's something else he has to do to the car; he's only really happy if it needs some attention. When it's perfect he gets the 928-maintenance-withdrawal shakes.

Carl,
the car looks awesome
Heres my contribution to that
I think it would look even better with the Euro clear separators between the front foglight and the blinkers.(is blinkers a valid name in English?)

Thanks for the positive feedback, I really just felt like I was 'out of the woods' and it's a feeling of relief at this point. I don't think I could take on another 928 now, life is busy with a "boss" (female) to answer to.
Malcolm: the usa marker lights are gone for good, and good riddance. No problems getting an inspection sticker (what is that- a 944?). Also no bumperettes and no rear wiper. I don't miss them and have given the parts away. Got rid of the rub strips at the same time.
Tass: clubsports are the ultimate wheel of course. And I am envious of your track car and always think it would make a killer street car.
Dave is almost right, but I have 3 928 friends that let me work on their cars, so there's plenty of dirty fingernails to go around. Just did mm/pan gaskets on one, spring swap on another, and exhaust swap on the third. What are friends for???!!!
