Default Blower Motor Repair/Replace

Can the blower motor be replaced apart from the entire blower assembly on my US 82 AT? Mine has burned out and if that's all that's wrong, I would hate to have to go to the very ext(p)ensive (I undertand) task of replacing the complete assembly.

Double check that it is really the motor. Usually it is a resistor set in the speed control. You can tell because if it is the resistor set it will still blow in the rightmost position. Actually, replacing the blower assembly is not that hard. Replacing the resistor assembly is a little easier, but only if you have small hands, which I do not.

Nope, it's definitely the motor. No blow in any position, sizzling hot when it went, a little smoke coming out of the holes in the motor. My question is, do I buy just a motor, or do I buy the entire blower assembly?

I don't believe the motor is available seperately.

You probably can get the whole assembly used for a reasonable price..........thats what I did.

The blower asm is the replaceable unit. It's not that hard. Contact ROG100 at 928sRUS for a used one, I'm sure he has several. When you go to take the old one out, remove the bolts for the right side hood hinge after marking the hood. have a helper hold it, and remove the screw down in the corner of the hood underliner area that holds on the lower windshield bezel. It's a slender piece of body work that is below the windscreen. Carefully pry this up a few inches and you will be able to remove the blower asm by bending it around some.

While you have it out, clean your heater and evap core with a long tube and vacuum. Your heater and AC will blow much better after this. Not a difficult job, but you need a helper with the hood while you finagle with the blower asm. Also, might want to just go ahead and replace the recirc flap actuator diaphram while it's out. They fail quite often, unless it's been done recently.

You’ll have to remove the hood to get to the heater motor. Most people pull it off the hinges and then struggle to get it re aligned. The better option is to pull the hood with the hinges. The hinge holes at the body are not elongated so the hood will stay in alignment after its re installed.

I would also pull the hood - it makes this far easier to do...

You will then need help only with handling the hood on removal and reattachment. I have done this on my own - and I would never do it again !

On some years getting to the hinge bolts (to the body) is extremely difficult.. but so is aligning the hood after reinstallation if you leave the hinges on the car...
