I guess this is what happens when you brag how good you are at fixing the double disc 928 clutch.
On Friday Rick Carter's clutch would not release anymore. I discovered the ball in the upper bell-housing pulled out. Not the ball cup, the ball itself was no longer screwed into the bellhousing. Very strange.
Once the clutch was out, I found the threads on the ball were very worn. Todd went up to Mark Andersons crew, found a die set to fix the bolt. Luckily the threads in the bell-housing were fine. This is not the job you want to do on a lawn on jackstands. So I used Jean-Louis trailer as my ramp (thanks JL).
Big thanks to Carl Faussett, Jean-Louis, Z, Sway Bar and Carl's crew for their moral support and suggestion during the surgery. They were running on the track and had "track stuff" to do with their own cars, so Rick and I plowed into the job. Not to mention I'm not sure how I fit under the car much less everyone else with me.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Getting the fork back on the ball was a major bitch since I did not shim the pressure plate.![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
Well, in the pictures below I am showing off the parts donated by Corvette Sports to finish the job.
In the end............it works. Shifts like butter! Rick has a twin screw on his car so not only did I have the pleasure to take the first test drive and experience a job well done, I got to drive a twin screw 32V 928!!!

Here is a pic of Mark Anderson today coming out of turn 12:

Looks like fun. As long as it wasn't too hot, it looks like not too bad of a trackside job.
I can't even get the ball stud out of the bell housing I have, let alone think it would unscrew itself.

I look like that 24 hours a day!
Anyway, nice job there, Enzo. I know exactly what you mean about getting the release arm on without having the pressure plate shimmed!

My wife sitting across the room saw the reflection of a man without shirt and said "that must be Andrew". No honey, not because a man is half naked it means its Andrew.

Sorry I missed you guys - too late. Last year, Joe Fan had to have his flywheel machined - which was accomplished by a shop in Milwaukee. It all worked out in the end. I have three sets of home-made shims, and next year, will probably put together a small maintenance kit to bring along in case something comes up. In the meantime, good luck!

I'm glad you got it fixed. I will say you need to thank your lucky stars you weren't at a track in the DFW area, you wouldn't have had the nice cushy grass to lay on...it woulda been pavement or scrubgrass/dirt.
