Default CRC MAF Cleaner wow!

I've been wanting to try this stuff ever since Bill Swift posted a topic about it a year ago. It only took 20 minutes to do.......
Anyway, several months ago I was working back by the exhaust outlet while the car was running and heard a very slight miss in the sound that I hadn't noticed before. The miss is now gone and the idle and acceleration seem to be smoothed out.

Instead of unhooking the MAF sensor, I unhooked the battery and made a cupped area with a plastic bag and a thick rag under the sensor (Remove the top screen). I sprayed about 15 quick shots at different angles and let it dry; then did another 15 and let it dry. The grime looked kind of oily as it dissolved and dripped off. I don't use a K&N filter and I doubt the previous owner ever did either.

Filthy dirty:

Sparklely clean:

Why do you leave it in the car?

Because it's easier than unplugging it, or less risky, or both.

JK,

can you better describe that "miss in the exhaust" you noticed?
Did the exhaust have popping sound to it?
Did you notice a big difference in drivability after the CRC treatment?

Thanks Rich

Is THAT what it's supposed to look like?

My MAF is easy to disconnect, I don't know why you would do it on the car either, but that looks much better. I may have to check into this.

There wasn't any popping noise or anything. It was more like a very small moment of pressure miss. The acceleration seemed more "buttery" feeling too, but granted, that could just be a placebo effect.

That's exactly what I thought after I sprayed it.

I guess mine is easy to disconnect too. I just never looked at it real close. Judging from every other connector on the car, I figured there would be some special fecked up trick to it; the kind that makes you throw things in anger and pull your hair out after you break it .

I've been trying to track it down in Australia, but it seems it isn't sold in this country.

I can't imagine why you'd not take the MAF out of the car. It's no big deal, and I would think you could get the sucker a lot cleaner.

I did mine using the same stuff, and it MAY have contributed to me going from fail to pass at emissions testing.

Since you didn't disconnect the MAF, how do you know that what's not visible from the top is clean too?

Unhooking the MAF connector is as easy as flushing a toilet!

Wow, your MAF looks brand new!

(bet you don't hear that everyday)

I've gotta get me some of that stuff ASAP.

BTW, did someone mention it's pretty easy to unplug the MAF?

This is as angled of a photo as I could get. I don't know what the middle piece is for (air temp sensor?), but it was previously coated with gunk.

Other MAF-equipped cars I've owned have responded well to cleanings using Brake-Clean. I'm not sure how different the CRC MAF Cleaner product is from their Brake Clean spray. No matter, the goal is to get the oil and soot/ash removed from the wire so it's more sensitive to airflow changes. With no residue left behind, thank you. The wire is quite fragile, like a light-bulb filament for a brief burn-off period following ignition-on. Material on the wire is baked to a crisp literally, then the ash is drawn through the motor and spit out.

Small point but the burn-off (wire glows orange for a second) follows ignition off, so long as the engine exceeded 2000rpm before switch-off.
