Yes if anybody knows if this is significant please chime in. I have a big can of CRC brake clean but have not seen the MAF cleaner. I will have the MAF out anyway while I am rehabing some vac lines and fuel lines, so it would be easy to spray it with brake clean, but I don't want to do anything that will damage the MAF or leave a residual that will affect performance.

I can't think of what acetone might affect, unless it's plastic supports or something. If you have the MAF cleaner available it might be best to just use that. In my Ford application, the sensor lifts out easily with a couple secure torx screws, leaving all the venturi and perhaps chemically-senstive plastic bits behind. Someone who has removed and inspected might comment on what plastic bits might be affected.
Also-- does acetone cause oxy sensor damage? Just wondering.

There are more than a few "variation" or even identical product repackages done for shelf space and other marketing reasons. Sell two cans of the same or very similar product when they are labeled for different purposes, right?

I have to give the CRC stuff a thumbs up, the carb cleaner ripped through gunk that the expensive sprays just ran off of.
Kragen having it on sale every other week helps too!

I drove around quite a bit today and there is definitely an increase in the quickness of the throttle response. It's more instantaneous and the shift transitions seem to be more smooth.

It may be that some MAFs have more plastic bits. That's the main issue with acetone. I never really examined our MAFs regarding plastic.

The assembly that holds the Wire and the airtemp sensor, plus another reference sensor wrapped inside that you can't see is made of plastic.
I don't know what solvents may damage it. I only use white spirit to clean them.
Don't try and dismantle a MAF ! Too much scope for damage.

I don't mind buying a specific cleaner for MAFs. CRC doesn't charge an arm and a leg for it, it is priced about the same as their brake cleaner. Based on this, and the fact it is designed for the task, not even screw around with using other stuff for this job. You can clean a lot of MAFs out of a $4 can...
