Question Leaking sunroof

During the past several rainy days, I have noticed an increase of water entering through the sun roof. I went to a body shop to see what it would cost to replace the molding around the sun roof, and they told me the molding was fine. They said my car had drains that were plugged up and needed to be relieved. I want to get this fixed before I replace the sun roof interior lining. Anyone else familiar with this problem ?

Where are you finding the water when it rains?

I had what I believed to be a leaking sunroof and got some tips from a "Rennlister" how to clean the drain pipes in the sunroof mechanics (with plastic cord from a weed cutter and a drill like a roto rooter). But it turned out that the drain pipes where fine and the water got in through the windshield seal. Once I replaced the windshield the leak stopped.
regards,
Sab.

To try cleaning the drains - Find some really heavy weed trimmer cord, preferably the type that has a star-shaped cross-section. Push it down the two drains at the front corners of the sunroof. At the rear, open the hatch and push the cord up toward the sunroof from the upper corners of the hatch opening.

It also leaks when I wash it. It leaks around the sun roof, and has caused the sun roof headliner to warp. Wally, thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot this week-end.

Porsche realized that sunroof seals were never going to be water tight so they added the drip tray metal inner liner to catch the water and harmlessly drain it out the four corners . Those drains can get plugged then when you turn or stop water sloshes out and runs under the headliner sometimes dripping out near the windshield . Check the drains park on a slight grade open the roof pour a glass of water in the tray see if it drains ...turn the car around check the other two drains .

I for one am so sick of leaking roofs that I am about to weld the damn thing shut!!! OK OK maybe I was a little overboard. Just as soon as the temperature gets above minus five hundred degrees and the snow clears away from my roofline I will again for the fourth time remove, clear the drains, inspect the new seals and re-install the damn sliding hole in the roof where the water comes in! Maybe I'll just put little Goldfish decals on all the windows.

When the sun is just right, I can see a tad of daylight around the front right corner part of the sunroof looking up from inside the car. There is however, no leak. The tray must be channeling the water to the drains.

I'll leave wee-enough alone for now.

Make sure your drains are clear.
