Default Mother’s back to black

Has anyone tried Mother’s back to black for the rear spoiler or bumperettes. If so did it do any good?

I’ve been using Vinylex which looks good when first applied, but seems to fade to a dark charcoal grey after being out in the sun a few days.

I wonder if this stuff is any better or if anyone has any other recommendations.

I used the Mother's for a number of years. Very pleased with the rusults, EXCEPT it tended to streak, as if I put on to much. This happened no matter how much I would wipe it down with a clean rag. Rain seemed to make it streak even more.

I've had good results with it.

Works really well applied with a toothbrush to the sunroof seal.

Excellent stuff. Its the only product I use to treat anything black on the car except tires and body paint.

I use it too and like it. Also have the Chemical guys VRT (vinyl, rubber and tire) dressing - good stuff as well. The thing I find is that you'll have to go over the paint again with some detail spray after you use (if you get some on the paint), as it will leave residue.

I use it on the front & rear spoiler, bumperettes and black window seal trim.
It is lomg lasting and buffs out to a nice low sheen.
Alll the other products wash off in the rain.

Great stuff

When I put the '82 back together after paint, I used "Forever Black", it is a lot more durable than Mothers Back to Black. It is actually "black" and doesn't come off easily once applied or dripped on something. I used it all all of the rubber and it looks much better than the Mothers. - in my opinion.

I also sprayed all of the black metal pieces with Wurth Satin Black trim paint - even the wiper arms - and they look like new. I cleaned and steel wooled the metal and used lacquer thinner to clean everything and had no problems.

I would recommend both products. (Dealers, you may send complimentary cans for this endorsement.)

I've got a very aged bottle of the Mothers that I use regularly, but sparingly, on the rear spoiler. To apply, U cut a wedge out of a sponge maybe a a couple inches cube, so I have a shrap edge to get the details and edges of the wing. Soak the sponge in water, squeeze it out, then add a FEW DROPS of Back To Black to the sponge piece. Apply with the sponge wedge, and the small amount in the sponge water seems to make a 'just right' film on the plastic. Flip the little sponge over and do a big-stroke polishing on the whole top face to even out the coating, and you're good to go. It comes up black but not glossy black as the water part evaporates. It's the look I'm looking for. If you have a red car that really needs some black help, perhaps a stiffer blend (four drops instead of three on the damp sponge...) would help.

Oh, in the "small world" category-- Craig Burnett, "Mr. Chemist" at Mothers in Huntington Beach, was a young QC chemist in a soap factory in Long Beach until it was closed about 20 years ago. I used to see him just about every day there. Now he's a TV star in the auto shine biz. Whooda thunk that way back then?

Been using it for years- The matte finish is nice, as mentioned- not shiney, like ****ty Armour-All.

I used it on all the rubber trim including the rear spoiler on my old 84S2 and 88S4. Works well but evaporated rather quickly in the AZ heat -

Sometime in the past the rear spoiler on my 84' got coated with some kind of black coating. If you look close it looks as if it was applied with a brush. It is very flexible and is still black. I wonder what they used.
