Lou, Thanks, Sorry to hear it wouldn't fit for you (but kind of glad for my behalf ;') I'm starting with a 2.87" but that was before installing the IC so I ordered a 2.62" and will see how much more that will give.

Barry, I made a template of cardboard for the bracket, bought some 3/8" plate 6061 aluminum online and found a local alum. welder to put them together. The pulleys are being made by a machine shop, I gave them a basic design drawing and a ribbed belt (these aren't done yet, supposed to be picking them up today).

John, My K&N will also be sucking hot air until I devise a way to plumb cooler air from in front of the rad. Most likely buy using flex. aluminum dryer vent routed behind one of the headlights.
I don't know what year your car is (you should add this in your signature by way of your profile, this way you don't have to think about it when posting ques.) but the earlier cars woundn't accomodate this IC, ask Lou (a couple posts up) I bought it from him because it wouldn't fit his 84', the spider's too wide), earlier cars would have to go with Capt. Carls IC (fits against the firewall.

KK, The aluminum charge tubing is 2.75" ID with .065" wall as is the mandrel 90 deg. bend, I bought them online from: http://www.woolfaircraft.com/
You will need 3.5" ID min. to run from the MAF sensor to the front but I would not recommend it because the K&N doesn't quite support the air flow needed (to much restriction), Porsche would have done it if it worked. Chris Lockhart put elbow and the K&N cone filter directly on the MAF sensor and had it protruding through the rear of the hood and inside his cowl induction scoop on his 89' GT, from what I remember him saying, it didn't work well, and he returned to the stock configuration, Chris you can chime in here.

Randy V, I haven't remounted the hood yet but when I'm done working on it for the day I set the hood on top and it sit's flush, all is below the intake height.

Sharky 47, See reply to KK's question above.

You're 100% correct Eric. It sounded good in theory, and looked pretty cool too (LOL) BUT it definitely won't support the air demands under WOT. Steady state cruising and part throttle were fine, but at WOT the engine would bog down due to air demand, until the immediate demand had been met, then would scream like a banshee. (also my A/F ratio meter would go FULL rich, telling me I had more fuel than usual)On a forced induction car this isn't a concern, but on a naturally aspirated engine you need a larger airbox volume than you would think. Look at the current crop of Sport bikes out there. They have HUGE airboxes, and found that they support the air demands much better than individual K&N filters. The K&N still may get used, but it will be attached to a Vortech S/C just like Eric's. (insert evil laugh here!!!) Still haven't seen a supercharged '89 GT yet. I'm only a thicker wallet away from doing it. BTW Eric, it looks great. Isn't having the hood off to work on it better?? You can get to everything easy and lighting is better. And to think, I get to work on mine like that ALL the time. LOL. Hoodscoop will be an interesting topic of conversation at SITM I'm sure. Looks WAY different than last year. Until May!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the slow response Chris,
Gave it a couple laps around the block for the first time today, I saw a few neighbors running for cover from what they thought was an incoming Lear jet, I guess it won't be so loud when I put the hood back on. It did seem to perform well but I didn't go to hard on it, I'm hoping it'll be reliable enough for the trip to Hershey in two days, not much time for the fine tuning.

Well best of luck with it. I expect a full report at SITM, as well as a "spirited" ride in it. (just to help me keep the fever) :-) See you in a couple weeks.
