VW wind tunnel.
Brungs up the VW Golf bodied 928 that had lower drag coefficient than the OB 928.
The Golf28 was faster on the Autobahns.
But that Mk1 Golf just looks sooooo boxy. But it's slipperier in the air than the curvy 928. Who'd have thought a chopped off tail would lower drag. (Kamm tail)
I like the curvy 928 body shell. It's got nice cross-wind immunity.

Bigmac, I look forward to meeting you in hell, but alas, the $4 will not be there. It is now going through all of the work mentioned on my original post of this thread. Then it goes to the body shop to repair the damage from some yahoo in a 4x4 pickimup truck with a lift kit (surprise) who backed into the drivers side rear quarter and over the tire. That, and parking lot rash dictates a full repaint. If I'm lucky I'll be able to drive this fine automobile before the snow flies and when it does start, I'll throw some Blizzacks on it and enjoy it as long as I can. I know, it all sounds sacrilegous: Porsche/snow, $4/no wing. I guess I'm just a renegade. See you in Hell!

Is there a program for wings like when folks get their pony tails cut off for kids with cancer who have no hair? Love to see the wing end up on a less fortunate car like a Honda. You know some poor car that was just born into the wrong class. The one who day dreams about having a wing, going vroom and pretending it's a porsche.

did you guys forget that i did the downforce tests with the S4 wing, raised 3" and inclined 10 degrees?
80lbs of downforce at 120mph
actually did a good job
Now that i have a real wing, i get near 3x that at 120mph and at 5 degrees inclined.

already have done this, however, not with the stock wing.
a good test would be to go 120mph and see if you can get your hatch to latch. we all know its near 50-60lbs to get the hatch to latch.
as jim said the stock wing is really not for downforce, but for drag reduction.
Guys, i do like the wingless look on the S4. not so much on the early cars, but the S4 looks pretty good wingless.

Will be needing speed tests at 100, 120, 140 and top speed.
But ossifer. See all them wires running from the wing. I was doing scientific research to see of that rear wing was rice or for real.
PS. Not sure if this is revelant but I forgot to latch my hatch once and drove the S4 200 miles on the highway and the hatch never lifted up from aero lift.
I only achieved 80ish on the high side so didn't test the triple digit aerodynamics.
But sure wouldn't want anyone to do an early Audi TT on their 928. Rumor was the TT would get light on them rear tires at high speed corners. Aerodynamics don't work too good when the car is sideways.
Is the S4 front spoiler a spoiler in the classic sense or an aero smoothing device to encourage airflow speed under the car.

..and so it can safely be said, that 90% of 928 owners can lose the wing. I too had read that the lift was well under 100lbs, which equates to nearly no lift at all given the vehicle. I would expect the purpose of the wing, aside from show, was based on speeds exceeding 160 in a "real" environment. Physics take on a whole new cause and effect when you pass a certain speed barrier. The road race guys would have more info on that.

Think about it: even the GTS mirrors are said to have a 3mph influence on top speed!

Nicole now that Kibort confirmed that the downforce is less than 80 lbs because his enhanced raised tilted wing ONLY did 80 lbs at 140 mph or about 2.4 % of the weight of a stock 928 now we shift to the importance of the wing for drag reduction ?? Can we all agree that the wing is NOT FOR DOWNFORCE , then we can discuss drag.
