Correct about Andrew and the AC compressors. Mounting hardware and hose ends/manifold make them incompatible. 90+ is ND 10PA20; earlier is ND 6E171.

Well So much for trying to give this lump of aluminium away for free. Hate to throw away a good usable part.
Andrew, is the clutch engaging and is the 86.5 clutch same as the 90GT? If you only need the clutch, and they are the same, you can have it.

Thanks Imre, but it looks like even the clutch is different. But Big Dave might need it from the sounds of it...

Andrew: Bummer about the ac. BTW if you can, send me a PM about approx amount of people (legal drinking-age adults) who are attending "Sharks In Hell" so that I may bring an appropriate amount of "treats" for them. The amount should NOT include an exaggerated needs quantity to compensate for certain individuals (no names but the letters AO come to mind). See you in Hell.

Andrew,
The part number you need is 928 126 113X which is what I quoted you.

Or, put graphically ('scuse the oil, it's much cleaner now)

Roger, this may be a hard earned trade secret, but do you have any idea what the part #'s or source for the fittings for the two rubber hoses to the compressor are? I'm contemplating buying some barrier hose and a crimper to make my own, but I wonder whether the two fittings at the compressor (from the #10 suction hose and the #8 comp to condensor hose) are 928-specific. Buying new hoses (928.573.098.08 and 928.573.097.09) sure isn't cheap.....

Rob,
I am talking to my hose supplier about rebuilding the hoses using barrier spec.
The end fittings maybe easer to find than you think.
Take your hose to the local hose guy and he may have them in stock.
Give it a try and let me know what you find out.
I will do the same thing.

Andrew
When the compressor is "on" can you see any bubbles in the sight glass on the drier.....also does the expansion valve by the firewall get cold? Without gauges showing pressure (or lack thereof) its hard to know for sure...you can get a set of R134 gauges at your local autoparts store for fairly cheap....

Andrew--

A trashed compressor makes a bit of noise if it's turning. No noise is good noise...

You can see if the compressor is frozen/locked up by trying to turn the thing by hand. Easy with the pan off, reach up and you should be able to get the center section of the clutch to turn in the normal engine direction with a little muscle. If it's locked up/frozen you will need more than just a compressor though.

More likely is that the clutch has chosen not to engage for some reason. It's hard to see down in there to verify that the center of the clutch is actually turning. On the S4+ cars like yours, the fans will come on causing the engine to slow from the extra power draw (you thought car electricity was free???), often fooling one into thinking that the compressor clutch is actually engaged. There's a slew of threads on why compressor clutches don't engage, with my most popular answer "low refrigerant charge" leading the list.

Quick Reply: Air Conditioning went kaput! I think it's the compressor.
