Default 87 S4 for sale in MI

I have nothing to do with this car. Just thought I'd post up the info if anyone is interested. One of my coworkers saw it in Howell, MI and gave me the specifics thinking I might want another one. All I know is what he told me.

1987 928 S4
automatic
black metallic (paint looked good enough from a distance he thought it might be a respray)
88k miles
$6k asking price
517.545.8815 or 810.220.0727 ask for Patti or Rick

The car is sitting at a private garage with the above phone #'s in the window.

Sounds worth checking out for that milage at that asking price. 1st question that comes to mind is "whats wrong with it?"

I believe I saw the ad for this and it said, "dealer says it needs a new thrust bearing..."

I can't locate the ad right now, but if I find it, I'll post it.

Who knows. By the time you replace the steering rack, torque tube and timing belt it might be priced just about right.

I called and drove by and looked at the car on lunch. Its definitely a 4-5k car in my opinion. Underneath the car you can tell its leaking fluids. Huge crack in the windshield. Horriable respray. Has dash cracks and there are seat covers on the seats which tells me they must be in pretty sad shape. Car wasn't jacked properly and the underneath is all bent up. Parts car material at best. The suspension reminds me of a 80's Deville. You push on the front and it just keeps bouncing. lol Seller said the car is sold and buyer is picking it up today. Who ever bought this car is in for a rude awakening.

I looked at this car as well today. I didn't think the pain was that bad. There was no overspray. A wetsand and buff would have cleaned it right up. Definitly a lot of oil under the front end. So far I have looked at two s4's in the past week and both looked the same, lots of oil so I figured that into the price. I thought most of the interior looked good. Seat covers could be suspicous, or could actualy be to protect them. I missed the crushed areas from the jack. The rear looked to have been worked on as the pan was really clean. I spoke with Patti and that was a complete waste of time, she didn't know ****.

I need to get to know these cars better, have another I am still considering. Just not sure on a good price yet. They need to come down some for sure...

The car also had headers and slighty modified exhaust. Would have like to hear it fire.

The guy I talked to when I said timing belt he repied with "What timing belt?". When I asked about the records he said he had no records at all.
Disranger,
You need to look at more 928's if you think the paint was ok on that car. That car is what I like to call an IOU. Cheap to get into but you still owe money because it needs so much work to be brought back up to service.

I agree I need to look at a few more. I 'm to used to looking at American cars, orange peel is normal ,lol. I have seen worse.
The owners just seem real fishy or complete morons. Did not sit well with me. See my other post on info about another s4 I am looking at.

Sounds like a 4k car with that that timing belt information. Who knows what other gremlins exist that cannot be seen.
