Default New Product: Competition Shoulder Harness Mounts

These brackets mount atop of the rear shock towers, and accept any common 3" shoulder harness webbing. They put the shoulder harness mounts at an ideal location straight back of the seat and down at a 10 degree angle. You do not want the shoulder harness mounts lower than that or they actually compress the drivers spine in an accident by pulling down on the shoulders.

This is actually an old design that I saw and liked years ago, but the original manufacturer is no longer making them. We thought we'd pick up the slack and bring them back.

These mounts fit in the crease of the rear seat when folded - which means - when not in use they are barely viseable. The rear seats still function, and they do not interfere with the use of the seat or stock seat belts.

Will work whether you have a roll bar or not.

Ideal for Autocross, Solo 1 and 2 racers, and anybody who want to add a 4-point or 5-point harness to their 928 to improve their driving skills. (the first step in improving the cornering of your 928 is to strap the damn driver down. You cannot performance drive a car if you are sliding all over the seat)

We made them from CNC cut steel plate and then had them professionally formed, and plated in yellow chromate for rust resistance and good looks.
This is the same coating you will find on your shock top hardware from Porsche. So our shoulder harness bracket fits right in and looks OEM.

Pricing is at $48.95 a pair.

Excellent. I've been wondering why nobody started to make these

FYI - PCA will no longer allow the use of a shoulder harness without a seat designed for their use:

https://rennlist.com/forums/racing-and-drivers-education-forum/368646-more-on-harness-rules.html

If the participant installs a 5/6 point driving harness, several additional changes are required to be made in order to create a fully safe occupant restraint SYSTEM. First a seat designed to be used with a harness must be installed. This means that the seat is required to have proper routing for the harness, both through the back and base of the seat for the respective shoulder and anti-sub belts. Secondly, because the addition of the harness means that the occupants are fastened upright in the vehicle, a properly installed roll bar or roll cage must be used to complete the SYSTEM. The use of one without the other makes an unsafe environment and is not a complete system.

Carl and Hacker,

I believe the change PCA made in requiring a seat with openings for the two shoulder belts of 4/5/6 point systems is a result of the fatal accident involving a Boxster driver newly signed off in Green in a Reisentoter region event at the Glen about 2 years ago. He had a 5 pt system, but nothing to hold the shoulder belts together. When his car made impact the shoulder belts slid off his shoulders, leaving NO restraint for the upper body/ helmeted head. Carl - your picture of the new restraints clearly shows how easily that could happen. I did have OE Sport Seats with 5 pt harness for one year of DE driving, but had the belts connected with a fastener that went across the seat behind my head. Never really felt as safe with that as I now do with the Recaro SRD seats and the pass through design.

You are correct. The "sloped shoulders" of the stock 928 seats are the problem, allowing the shoulder harnesses to slide too easily off the drivers shoulders. A seat designed for a 5 point harness will steady the straps in their ideal location.

I just wanted to show how they look/work in a stock 928. There are plenty of photos of seat belts in
race-equipped 928s.

Cool item, Carl. Does anyone have a product that would allow 3-point belts to be used in the back seat? My '85 has only lap belts back there. I'd love it if my kids had the shoulder belt when they sit there.

Hey Carl..just a random free thought....is there something you could design that clips in place of the front seat release *****...that one could thread the upper harness through on each side..you know.kind of a slot that will slip on the release **** tab?...

Anyone get what I'm picturing in my mind..could be a simple add on that makes the 4 point belts safer for us occasional track guys?..

thoughts..comments?

later,
Tom

You could use these.

Buy a street set of four points. Mount the lap belts where the factory ones go.

Hacker is right. This would add a shoulder harness to the rear seats very well.

Not sure that would pass tech. Good idea though.

Friend of mine just had his factory ZO6 modofied with holes for the shoulder belts. Any upholstery shop can do the work. It looks factory.

I need to take some pics, very easy way to use these brackets, stay legal for DE"s and keep the factory look. I'm thinking about this combination for my 81.

Lets see if this ascii thing works... Just jam it on the seat release **** tab..and make it wide enough in the tab slot so that it won't move up or down (thus allowing seat to move ..bad thing).. Be nice to have something like this..cause..no matter how nice..not gonna cut holes in my sport seats.. ..

Later,
Tom

ahh.crap...not working...anyone with mad ascii skillz....

P.S... VW sells something close..just a seat release **** that is longer lever and is made to hold the stock seatbelt on the upper part . direct swap out and can serve in a pinch....wonder what they cost.(times 4 needed..)..

How about a bolt-in, combination padded-adjustable-seat-back-support, and shoulder-harness-holder for the stock seats?

Ordered off ebay, didn't see them yet on the 928MS sight. I'll take pics with proper seat and post up when in.

Cool timing, I had just posted a thread about his a couple days ago!

So to keep stuff light but also safe and simple, we could do these, and then a simple rolle bar over the main head area behind the front seats? One that hugs the outside of the car?

I am trying to figure out how to put a RB in the car without it making driving without a helmet or with my kid in the car unsafe.

Tom,

The '88's and later have 3 pt harness for the the rear seats on both sides. If you buy a pair of these, you might be able to install them in the '85. The '87's, I know have a mounting hole in the C pillar for the 3rd point of the harness. There is a small depression in the inner qtr panel where the hole is. Might check into that for the earlier models!!

Cheers,

Gary Knox
PS: I believe I have a pair of the rears from an '88 in black, just in case they will fit, and you are interested.
