The only way you can have an exclusive club is ........by excluding someone Or what was the old line about , Not wanting to join any club which would accept you as a member because the standards are too low And quite frankly to many this banter is mostly for entertainment with some real tidbits mixed in from time to time. Few people enjoy reading a dictionary ...it is drama which sells.

Tom. M: I am confident that your reply to my restaurant analogy was not intended to offend (and no offense was taken) I agree that sometimes the replies to some threads burn just a little too much. However, In my restaurant we would NEVER pound a patron senseless after eating a steak (unless he was trying to dodge an $18 tab)

Definitely not meant to offend. ...hmm...$18..for a nice steak dinner..doesn't sound too bad at all....If I ever make it out there I'll have to stop by ..

BTW..not meaning that the staff was pounding the patrons..more like the other patrons (not affiliated or having any real interest in your business) pounding the homeless guy for not buying a steak..to use the bathroom..kinda like the rennlist members pounding the rennlist users for not ponying up $18...etc etc etc...

I must have missed these threads. The only time I've seen people getting "pounded" for not paying, was only after their thread was deleted for breaking the rules and they were upset about it.

You make it sound like we as members started this thread to point out 918-S did soemthing he wasn't supposed to do. He started the freeking thread!! The first response (mine) was quick and to the point.
Any retaliation after that was 100% uncalled for. If you don't like the rules, fine, disagree with them. Complaining about it is never going to end pretty.

I am beginning to agree with you.

There are only a few technical members who will actually answer technical questions.

And with your comment about being able to leave nasty comments to others once you have joined, I am afraid you wont be able to unless you are a certain moderator.

To be perfectly frank one of the main reasons I dont pay for rennlist is because all is not equal here. We all have seen writings by some not even glanced at while others which are FAR less rude they are banned for.

I suggest that you just stick around as a user for awhile and watch the threads, see how people go off topic in alot of threads. See the responces of the other people, then decide if you wish to line the pockets.

Very salient points. The longer I hang out here the more I am convinced that you are correct.

The value of this forum comes from the wisdom gained by other contributions (free contributions I may add).

I’ve been to plenty of other car forums (VW & MB) as well as other topics (Car Audio, Windjammer, HVAC repair) and none of them insist on charging money as vehemently as members from this site do. Why is that? I just don’t get what makes this form different from the 5 or 6 others I participate on.

I understand serving up a website costs money for servers, bandwidth, maintenance, etcetera, but how is it the other sites do this same service for free? Ironically from a user interface standpoint, many of the other sites appear to be identical in all other aspects.

Someone, anyone who comes here and offers all of us regulars/paying members the opportunity of making money by helping them fix their 928, are in my book WELCOME. But I do not make the rules. I just live here, and fall subject to the same rules. I disagree with them also. Many of them are nonsensical and whimsical, and counterintuitive. And worst of all, they are open to the interpretation of the moderator at his discretion.

what..Hacker missed a thread??? can't be..haha

I cringe everytime a user gets on here and asks a question, or posts a for sale, or wanted post etc.... cause guaranteed the next few posts will be a "you can't do that as a user"...then comes the buy a membership.its a great deal....and then "how can you not get a membership..it's so worth the money" ad infinitum.

Cut them some slack..a simple post pointing to the rules and regs..and then drop it...

Of course if the guy comes back and continually ignores the rule..(ala lowmiler)..then pound away..

these threads always go sideways...(and I'm not helping here am I?.haha )

later,
Tom

FWIW (as if anyone cares) I agree 100%
But as you said, rules are rules and I'm sure JD has a good reason for this one. That reason is NOT to line his pockets as a few people have accused him of in the past.

But doesn't he have a 914? I'm kidding. Put down the torches.

I recently joined a racing forum where I am not alowed to start a thread or use the search feature until I have over 30 posts.

The Ferrari Forum? I paid $60 for that membership.

The bottom line is that it's John's house, not ours. If you don't like the rules, go somewhere else.

If anyone has a short block to sell to this gentleman, he is now asking over at the Pelican forum. You can contact him there.
