I purchased that 89 s4 with 84K I told you guys about last week. The records show all sorts of great engine work done at 77K miles: tbelt, all new gaskets, main seal, cv boots, new plugs and wires etc...$5600 worth. Not a drip to be found on my gararge floor. Trans was serviced as well, and a/c blows nice and chilly. AND, the owner prior to the guy I bought it from (who traded this in for an 04 turbo) upgraded to cross-drilled rotors. That shake feels like the tires need rebalancing; it shakes from 60mph to 70 mph but is smooth above and below those speeds. Cosmetically, not quite as bad as I feared but will need a bit of touch up on the paint or clear that's peeling around the doors. Owner was asking $8500-came home with me for $6800

Wow, you bought a well documented & maintained '89 S4 with 84k on the clock for only $6800!!! Thats gotta be one of the better deals on a shark that I've heard of in a while! I'd say you are starting with lots of room to spend on any needed work or cosmetics.

After I saw the records and speaking to the guy who did all the work to it, I opted to forgo the ppi. The guy who traded this in on the turbo spent $10,000 in the two years he owned it to do all the important stuff-with the records to support it-so I felt comfortable. I'm in the Houston area-does anyone know of a good wheel shop near here? Two of the wheels have some curb rash and I am in need of some smoothing and powdercoating.

Congrats! Great buy.
And for the wheel balancing, make sure you bring it to someone that knows how to deal with high performance cars, and make sure they check the tires for not only balance, but make sure they not out of round.
On my '88, both the rear tires were out of round just a bit. It was something I would not have noticed, but while we were balancing my tires, Captain Earl spotted it and pionted it out to me.
And let me be the firs to say this:
