Trying to talk myself into keeping the darn thing.
As long as the minor mods are reversible, I usually don't have a problem with them.
EDIT:
Everything is fine and dandy, content, etc...
Then I look at these photos!!!

Chris--
I know right where that black one was photgraphed. Bring your 928 and we'll put it in the same picture/same spot. Ron, got a camera handy? Get the new turbo to come along (I can drive it if necessary) and you can have covershots of both to hang on the wall in the garage or at the store.

It's an S4, if it was a 95 manual GTS I would keep it

The single best "mod" I did to mine was the 18" wheels & tires.....not only do they look great & far more modern....but it took the handling to a whole new level!!

It's not like you really have to choose one or the other. They are way different cars.

Does anybody else watch car commercials, when they show somebody in a "sports sedan" ripping a few corners, then bragging about the adrenaline rush? This is the same question-- Going the same speed in the 993 or in the 928, do you need or want that kick in the heartrate? I admit there are times when it would be fun, but for the most part I enjoy the no-strain performance and handling that the 928 lords over the back-motored cars.

Sadly, in my shoes I wouldn't have that option. I'm in Australia, where there were 5 manual-gearbox GTS's imported into the country.. yep, some people have more fingers on one hand! I'm not sure a 5-speed GTS has actually been sold in this country in years.

I doubt this will be of help but I will throw it in anyhow..
I test drove several 993TT's and was thinking of buying one for 2 years until I finally decided on my 94 turbo. At the time the 94 was cheaper than a 993TT but that is not what made up my mind. Now the market is all screwy and the 94's are bringing more money than the TT's.
The 993TT is a great car. The power is great and the all wheel drive is nice. IMO it doesn't belong on a sports car. The 94 rear wheel drive and single turbo has got to be one of the most exhilarating Porsche's you can drive. With 48 less HP stock it is equally as fast as a stock TT and so much more fun to drive. I never liked the looks of the 993TT especially the tail although the '97 TT S looks great IMO. Slight mods to the 94 and it becomes scary fast. I also think it is the best looking and driving 911 ever made, but that is just my opinion. Besides other than the all wheel drive system and the rear suspension change the 993 and 964 are basically the same car.
Regarding the 993TT compared to my GTS 5 speed they are two very different cars and I think the GTS with the 94 makes for a better contrast than the 993TT which is more GTish than my 94. Regarding the interiors they are plain but only date back to the late 70's and can be spruced up, but you aren't looking at the interior when blasting down the road anyhow just the tach is all you will have time to see. The GTS is a great car but unless you make drastic changes to it, it will never beat a 911 turbo. It is powerful and can handle well but when you start reaching speeds of 120 on twisty roads (not that I would ever do such a thing ) the GTS just can't keep up even with upgraded springs shocks and sways the car will float and the PSD is working constantly. The turbo on a back road is a heavenly experience as is the GTS on an open stretch of highway. The turbo on the highway is a boring and a bit of work. Ironically the pros of the GTS are the cons of the turbo and the pros of the turbo are the cons of the GTS.
So after these words I will leave you with nothing of value other than keep the S4 and buy the TT you won't regret it and you will have fun no matter what you decide to drive.

As good as some pre 996 911's are I could never even think about them because of the pedal arrangement they have. Clearly this isn't problem for you. Still, I vote for geting 550 Maranello if you have the means to do it. Its like more modern 928 with V12. Very few cars can beat that at any price range.
