Default PacNW 928 Heckowee Tour '07 Video

All right everyone, my first attempt at logging in car video, and then attempting to use edit software. It takes a lot to make this all happen, kudos to Kibort and Olson for really perfecting their method. I can see once you get your system down, it should all work pretty smoothly. This first time out I had many issues with the camera while in the car. No remote, so I had trouble turning it on and off, and in so doing I would knock the camera out of focus, or push it off center. Editing was also an experience, but again time will smooth things out. In the last segment of the video, the film got sped up in editing, don't know how that happened, but my attempts to fix it failed, and I didnt' want to start over, so you get to see it in fast forward, and hear me doing my best impression of Alvin and the chipmunks.

I used a Sony Handicam with a short tri-pod bungee corded over the rear A/C. Recorded onto mini discs. Edited using Magix software.

Enjoy! It's a little over 6 minutes long.

Not by a longshot. I've known macreel for a long time, and you sir, are no macreel.

Sorry Glenn. This video thing has been an insomnia project for me, so I haven't been too sharp in execution. As I was figuring out how to do subtitles, I was originally just going to use everone's name, but then I got the bright idea to use Rennlist handles where applicable. The way your car comes across the screen popped macreel's avatar in my mind, guess I should be a little more alert when composing these things.

I will make the correction straight away (30 minutes to edit and convert to mpeg, two hours to upload to google ) but you shall be vindicated my friend. I will have the words sharkmaster85 emblazoned across the screen.

I shall make sure that everyone on the proof viewing panel is immediatley fired, deported, and forced to drive 911's for the rest of their lives.

...sounds like your riding the Stagecoach with all that squeeking and creeking !

Nice shots Adam. Your cars sounds quite masculine, a real brute! Still LOVIN' your wheels! The scenery was great. I don't kknow much about movie making, but is it possible to run your camera at higher speed to capture more vividness and smoother movement?

Never the less, great effort and entertaining for sure!

What is the muffler setup on the camera mounted car?

It's a Louie Ott prototype that he built some years ago now. It has the Ott )( going into a pair of high flow cats, then into Bullet mufflers, and then straight pipes out the back. It's a 2-1/2" system. I really like the sound and am going to miss it when I move up to the stroker. This system is very mild mannered at idle, but has a great tone (as you can hear) when you step on it. I prefer it to the stock resonator/RMB combo, which would give some open header tones (a little too raw for me) and drone at freeway speeds with the 2.20 rear end.

...sounds like your riding the Stagecoach with all that squeeking and creeking !
well ya know, we did have two vette's along with us, I wanted them to feel right at home. Actually the squeaking is from the steering wheel hub grommet rubbing against the pod. I had to do an emergency ignition switch replacement just before the tour, and when I put the steering wheel back on it was making a slight contact. I've since R&R's it and its back to normal. The car did have a lot of creaks though. I have the entire interior torn out right now, and that together with carrying a lot of loose stuff in the car for the tour made for a noisy ride for sure. I'll be happy when I've got the car back together again.

Still LOVIN' your wheels!
Wait till I get THESE on, then you'll know true love:

That's 12" baby, and I know you know what that's about.

but is it possible to run your camera at higher speed to capture more vividness and smoother movement?
Probably. There are a lot of stages along the way to clean the video. I can tell you that watching the raw footage playback on the camera is different then seeing played in the edit software, and the final version on the edit software is different then what you see on playback from google. There's a definite learning curve there to make what you initially see throught the view finder look the same as the final edited version on the web. But, just like being in the music studio right? Get the densist mix you can on the raw track because it's easier to take away then add. I'll figure it out.

Well, seeing as its not too much trouble then.....
Gotcha covered Glenn, thanks for understanding. And I just realized that my last retort may not make a whole lot of sense to you unless you happen to follow American Vice-presidential politics.

Adam,

Wonderful footage...thanks for going to the effort and sharing. Great sounding 928 you have! Scenery's not bad either. How much Dramamine did you use while editing?

BTW, there's only ONE Macreel. He seems like a calm sort but I'll bet he drives his bronze N/A 928 like Satan's twin turbo 911 is after him and there's no way he's gonna let him pass.

Nicole,

We left breakfast at 8:30am and arrived at dinner at 4:30pm. You've only sat through 6 minutes worth......

When I post on our local list I really try to dissuade passengers from coming because it's such a long twisty drive, and if you start getting carsick, you're going to be in a world of hurt being out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but twisty roads to get you back to civilization. Nonetheless if passengers have the guts (and the stomach) to come out, they are always welcome. We had a pair of co-pilots this year that were all smiles, which is pretty amazing. I don't think I could handle the right chair on this ride. One gal (Chelsie) went the distance with lizard931, which shows she's got nerves of steel. I get carsick just watching this guy manhandle his car on the dyno.

Maybe a NorCal contingent next year? We're already "international" with the Canadians this year, maybe we could stretch it to a "West Coast Thang" for next year.

Gotta come out and play Harvey, no excuses man, we're in your back yard.

Walt, I don't know if its the climate, the backbacon, or the socialized medicine, but your countrymen know how to drive. I s#*t you not. You've got to come out next time for sure. It's your duty as a 928 owner.

Two things I learned about Canadian 928 drivers on this tour:

1) They are immune to lateral g's;

2) They don't fear the rev limiter on the dyno.

I usually don't mind being a passenger, as long as the driver knows what he's doing (which I know you and most others do). However, 6 hours sounds a wee bit long...

Either way, it was the accelerated video that made my head spin...

I have no idea what's going to be next year, but you can always let us know ahead of time of your event plans. Maybe we'll make it, or maybe it would be a reason to fly-up and ride shotgun with one of you wild ones... (j/k)
