Accusump - Oil Cooler Question
#63
Marc and Louie......
AN-12......I hear you....but if I wait to reorder the hose and connectors I'll head to the track Monday & Tuesday without the Accusump....so I'm forging ahead and if the results aren't what I'd hoped for I'll have to have a Mulligan and do it over this winter with 12. I haven't had any issues at Mid Ohio in the past, there aren't any long sweepers, just quick high load transitions except for turn 1.
So far I only have one 90 degree connector and I've made very nice radius turns everywhere else. The run is really pretty straght. So.....time will tell.
Brendan...sorry for the delay. The adapter is direct from the Accusmp website.
Ours is a 20 mm.

I should be able to wrap this install up tomorrow and see if it works.
Regards,
Ken

Okay great, now all I need to to find out where Vlocity got that sandwich plate.

You would think all of that oil in the line would just sit there for a long time. Unless you purged it with every oil change. Not sure how what works since I have yet to install one.

I've seen quite a few 951 track cars with the Accusump in the back. .
The guys that are going out the passenger side have been routing the line along the right "rail" across the bottom of the radiator pan and then in the left front. I would expect that route is similar in overall length to what I have.

I'm a few hours away from final hook up and pressure testing.

EDIT: I found a similar page where it has its -10, or 1/2 NPT:

These are similar to the ones ken posted:
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro...asp?RecId=5131
And they have 1/2 NPT, which means that probably what ken has, and thats -10. So unless everyone is okay with having the lines neck down for that/those holes from -12 to -10, I am not sure what other Accusump users are running for the sandwich. I think it looks somewhat straight forward to make.

Well, I dug some more and answered my own question, and the answer is that all the fittings on these units are 1/2 NPT, which is -10 or so, unless everyone that runs -12 just runs it in the between lines, I am not sure now.

Abby,
That is where I'll be installing mine, very common location for 928's without the climate system yanked.
I've seen a few with the Accusump mounted behind the bumper cover. Bad idea IMO, even a slight front end hit would send a ton of oil everywhere.

Thanks Ken. Do you know what size that oil port is on the side? It does not say on the website if it is -10 or -12.
You are correct it is 1/2 NPT.
Maybe the guys with the AN-12 are trying to get a venturi effect......(I am just kidding) . I do agree that bends will decrease the flow.
I just fired the car up while on jackstands and no leaks and the tank held steady pressure overnight. I ended up with 1 - 90 degree fitting and 1 - 45 degree fitting. I have some other maintenance to do before heading to the track...so back to the garage. I'll post some pics later tomorrow.
Best regards,
Ken

Success !!!!!
A couple of quick questions
The instructions indicate that the tank pressure should be 10-15 PSI before the initial oil fill... I went this route and that produced about 110 PSI after the engine ran and refilled the Accusump. Does this sound about right. I figured that it would be closer to the actual engine oil pressure.....but I filled the Accusmp right after start up with the oil cold so it may have produced a higher pressure than I will see later with the oil hot. Has anyone tweaked the pressure upwards to get a little faster release into the engine?
I was also wondering if anyone with the Accusmp is running 1 quart low on the oil pan on purpose just to keep the oil level away from the crank ? I know that foaming oil and possible overfill have always been considered a bad thing. I'm thinking about running the oil pan a quart low with the Accusump full.
I have almost 12 quarts in the system right now and with the Accusump cycled and full I'm half way between the full and add mark on the dipstick.
I'll post some final install pics when I get a chance....I'm headed out to load the trailer.

110psi cold is normal.
I use to run mine just above the lower mark, but i didn't have the new style Accusump with the pressure switch.
Sounds like your good to go!

Here are a few pics the first is a picture of the skunkwerkes.
The second shows the sandwich adapter in place....there is very little room and only one real option for the incoming feed hose from the Accusmp. I used a 45 degree fitting and ran the line in from in front of the exhaust manifold (shown wrapped in the photo) To orient everyone a little better, the sandwich plate is in the top right corner of the photo and the filter is not in place. The oil cooler lines are shown in the bottom horizontal third of the photo.
Tha last picture is of the Accusmp in place. The cover fits nicely and with the carpet back in place, you will never know that it is there. I am switiching the unit on with a lighted on switch placed next to my boost guage in the console.
I had also been concerned that the 1 1/2 inch thick sandwich plate might lower the stock oil filter, but it is now just slightly above the bottom of the alternator so this was not an issue.
Thanks to everyone for their advice and help.
Ken
