John-

A few years ago when I flew Mooneys out of Vero Beach with students, we had a couple of M20J's involved in wingtip strikes on landing.

Not me! A couple of extra knots never hurts-

-Seems people were flying the approach at the recommended speed...but then holding it off too long, causing a wing to drop ....

DON'T try this in a swept-wing jet either!

In any case, I was hooked on the looks of the 928 when my friend's dad brought one home in 1978. I was 12-

N!

PS- I never got into the dirt bike thing, but I still keep the '76 CB-750-four in the living room, had it out to the beach in Cocoa a few weeks ago. It must need work- it needed three kicks to start this time....

To add to the fray-

I turned 40 earlier this year. My 928 is my second Porsche (owned an 87 924S 5 speed first).

Porsche ownership began at 36...and not turning back EVER!

John,
Maico went belly up (see "What killed Maico" link at MaicoMadness ) but came back as M-Star only to die again. What was left, including the original Maico name, was sold again and again. Bottom line Maico is now being built again in Germany. (see UsMaico ) I remember when the 490's came out. They were smoking the Honda factory RC500's, just walking away from them at the holeshot and carving under them in the turns and at 1/10th or 1/12th the price of the Japanese factory bike. That's German engineering for you.

I've been driving some sort of performance car since the age of 19 - back in 1968. Do the math. I bought my first 928 in 1990, and have owned three Porsches since. My current ride is too much fun to part with, but retirement is just around the corner, and I may need to make a life-style change. YMMV.

"It's not the years, it's the miles"

I'm thirtysix. I've owned about 20 cars, but the 928 is my fav so far. I spent a lot of money fruitlessly in an attempt to make my caddies like the 928, I wish I had thought to buy the 928 sooner!

Currently own:
1968 Cadillac DeVille (conv) (V8 7.7L 375HP 525ft/lb)
1970 Cadillac Eldorado (V8 8.2L 400HP 550ft/lb)
1974 GMC Custom 1500 (I6 4.1L)
and of course a...

I bought my car when I was 29 for my own birthday. It was to be my next "project". Then my wife told me about the baby on the way. Now he is almost three and I am 32 and the car is on the road.

Well I got my first car when I was 16 an 89 mercury courgar V-8 supercharged very nice car very fast just had many tie rod problems. Then I got a 2000 plymoth breeze had that for a year then an 89 mercury tracer(the worst car ever) Then a 97 ford ranger and just a year ago I bought a 1984 928S my dream car something my parents said that they were sure that I would have because before i could drive porsche was what I fell in love with. I am 22 now and was 21 when I bought it. Next once I am done with college here I am going to try to buy a 911 turbo and give that a spin, but no matter what the 928 is a keeper. It does not really matter what age you are just that you have fun with it. I am just very thankful that I do have one and can enjoy.

Dennis said..."Now you are ALL trying to make me feel old. I've been driving sports cars off and on since 65 and I was 19 at the time. I'll let you do the math and no fair laughing.
Dennis
knew I shouldn't have opened this thread."

Right there with you Dennis. Sports Cars started in '63...first porsche 911T in 1971... 3 more 911's and 3 928's later. Here I am....

Only the photo on my drivers license is getting older. I am still 29.
