The connector circled in green is indeed for the Hall sensor on the back of the cam drive. There's an engine harness plug that mates with it.

he blue-circled connector is primary power to the "jump post", which carries current on to the central electrics panel. The jump post is at battery positive potential once that wire is connected. There s a cap that screws on there and a plastic shield that keeps rain and car wash water out.

Get a used bracket from 928 International. It attaches to the head with 8mm capscrew (13mm hex head) and is easy to install. The bracket for the Hall sensor attaches to that, and the clamp for the engine harness attaches there too. Without the support, the Hall sensor wiring will drop and get cooked by the exhaust. The front engine harness will drop into the belts. More than enough reasons to put it back to the way it was designed.

Thread revival - I think I figured out the passenger side coil ground wire connection from above, but I do not see a ground wire at all for the driver's side coil. This is an 85. Is there one? In Stan's post above, he says there is, but I don't know what year car he is referring to. I took off the passenger side wire, but never had one on the driver's side. What am I missing? The car won't run without these wires, so I am thinking the driver's side for some reason does not have its own ground. Any help appreciated.

Those were added for radio interference suppression.
I think partway thru 85.
Theres multipage IIRC tech bulletin that mentions it.
Do you have the CD's, if not I'll look it up.

For 85/86 the driver side ground wire connects to the bolt that clamps the coil,
then the other end goes to the allen bolt that holds the rear cam cover to the rear of the cam tower housing.
NOTE to install/remove this allen bolt you have to remove the coil clamp then move the coil,
use some sticky putty on the 1/4 inch allen driver with a universal so the bolt wont be lost

Ed, for reference, here are a couple pics of the driver side coil ground cable on my 89.
