Greg,
If you read Paul Champagne's thread you can see all the details you like and more.
Also Grif raised this thread from the grave not me or anyone else who has posted. As far as this subject was concerned I considered it dead and I am sure others also.
Grif raised it and probably feels he needs to resolve his bad rap on customer service. Thats positive.
I personnaly was involved with the issues that Paul Champagne experianced and saw and heard first hand the TOTAL LACK OF SUPPORT from Griffith. I did not say bad product.
If Grif raises his standards of Customer Service to somewhere near that of Mark, Jim and crew, Dave and Jeannie then he would not have any further issues. It is not just about supplying product.
Just my 5 cents worth.
Roger

Stan, here are some pics of the Griffiths kit I installed about 4-1/2 years ago. The mounting bracket is a very nice piece, easily twice as strong as the Porsche stuff. The turnbuckle for belt adjustment is a nice touch. I hear that the kit now comes with spacers rather than washers and FWIW I used less than half of the washers that came with it -- just enough to line things up. Whatever problems people have had with washers, I haven't been seeing. The compressor itself has been fine all along, pressures as expected though not quite low enough on the low side. I have been chasing other issues in the AC system though, like a clogged evaporator(air path, not coolant path) and this weekend I'll be replacing a faulty expansion valve -- which didn't become obvious until recently. More pics and info on the project here.

We had to stop selling the kit but not because of the product.

FWIW, I bought some items from Griffith's during the summer of '07. I bought hoses, and a retrofit kit. I didn't get around to installing any of it until this past September. The metal fittings on the hoses required some extra bending to make them fit properly, but I had expected that they would be a little conservative with their bends since every car is a little different. They were a bit tough to install but ONLY because the hoses were brand new, and brand new rubber is much harder to manipulate then older worn rubber, that's been cooking for a couple of decades. Once I installed everything, and replaced every o-ring in the system, it pulled vacuum at the first attempt and held it overnight. Now my a/c produces 28 degrees at the center vent. I have no complaints about the quality of his products thus far. Whenever I emailed them with questions they were very quick to respond and seemed to take an interest in my concerns.

In all fairness, I heard a bunch of horror stories about Griffith's, before I even placed my first phone call....and was a bit apprehensive about the first call. As I said, I've had no issues. People that develop/market products that they have worked very hard to perfect can sometimes be very defensive about those products.....there's ego involved. Sometimes it is best to just deal with the reality of what the issue is an not be so personal about the product. This thread is a perfect example. No details about what is going on with the problem. No details, no pictures, no history....hmmm.

Again, if the thread is an attempt to fix a problem, that's great....let's deal with that and get it fixed. If the thread is just a public bashing.....I guess people will see through that.

I did. And I went back and read it.

I don't get it, unless PaulG and Paul Champagne are the same. I think perhaps this whole thing has some sort of an agenda that I don't get.

Explain?

Greg,

we are not the same. My problem was different and detailed in a separate post. The one common feature was a lack (in my opinion) of customer service on Griffiths part, namely refusing to take responsibility for anything.

I never attacked Griffiths, I simply shared my personal experience, and let the people judge by themselves.
In the end, I found a much simpler and cheaper solution.

Greg,
In a nutshell I cannot understand why Grif would want to drag this thread back from the grave and drag his reputation through the mud again. What was his motive?? Had a few to many (been there done that) at the time he posted. Beats me.
It is not like he raised the thread again and tried to write the wrongs. I guess I will just go away shaking my head in wonder.
Paul G is not a regular on Rennlist so the chances of him answering any of Grif's questions are nil.
He should have raised the thread started by Paul Champage as that was a much higer profile thread and Paul is an active Rennlister as well as a sponsor.
I think it is positive move for hime to be thinking about his cutomer service.

Roger and Paul:

I understand. It is unfortunate when someone has an issue with a supplier and can't resolve the problem. I know that Mark Anderson was also unable to resolve some issues with Griffith's and was not able to continue doing business with him. We seem to all be in business for ourselves, so we all have something in common. I know that in my business, try with all my might not to have, I have customers that are not completely happy. I'm sure we have all faced the same situations.

It is been said that the true measure of someone is how they react when they are having problems. Everyone can be happy and helpful, when things are going good. While I've never had an issue with Charlie, I've never had to deal with any problems with his products....so, it is possible that my perception is from a completely different view. If people have had issues with Charlie, I'm glad that he is approaching things from another "position". It is always good to learn, mature, and change.

In this stange world that we live in, it seems that customer service is almost a completely lost thing. I've found, for myself, that extended warranties issued by companies, are a complete waste of money, as they always seem to have some bull**** excuse why they are exempt from honoring the warranty, no matter what they said, when you purchased it. I think that most other people have also "wised" up to this scam. I have a small list of companies that I refuse to buy anything from, ever again, because of how they have handled their extended warranties. These companies include, GE, Best Buy, and Circuit City. Currently, I'm having similar problems with Mahle. Interestingly enough, it seems that all of these companies are having mild to severe financial problems, in this ecomony. I would guess that many others have had the same issues that I have had and feel the same way, which is probably why these companies are having problems. It doesn't take too many people to swear never to buy anything from you again to hurt your business.

Anyway, I hope your experiences are unique and that things improve.
