Hay pilotshark,

Your 84 928S US is suppost to have the same engine as my 928S 83 US. (Lucky us uh?)

I broke my t-belt recently too, well striped 8"s worth of teeth. No valve contact.

When I talked to the guys at 928 intl, I found out that the 4.7l engine is suppost to be a zero-tollarance engine. In other words, assumeing no machineing, or carbon build up, no contact. Machine the head, or have some carbon, contact.

I'm sorry, tough break man. The experence has convinced me as to the need for high quality fuel, and the carbon deposit cleaner.

My question is did you see the valves that where replaced? (Or the pistons?) If so, did it look like it could have been caused by one of the above problems? I'm wanting to know if the zero-tollarance deal is whats up. IF so it would explain the conflicting storys about the 4.7l engine.

V.U. I do not knw what the difference is between the 83 and 84 models. I have heard so much conflicting info about the "S" model intro at 84 and the "S" option as early as 82. As far as engine tolerance, again it beats me. I am certain that the US model 1984 4.7 ltr Porsche 928 engine is in fact an interference engine. I am still paying off the loan I took out to pay for the repairs.

I have seen phil's site <a href="http://www.928s4vr.com" target="_blank">www.928s4vr.com</a> and just about every available rennlisters 928 sites and have yet to see anything that clears it up. I assure you that contact was made as I did get to see the damaged merchandise. Contact Mo Zahr or Marc White in Wichita Kansas if you would like to see what kind of damage can take place. I say contact these two men because that is who did the repairs. I will look for thier numbers for you if you want. They sent me pictures which i have since lost and I looked at everything when I got it back. I am also certain that the belt did slip and I lost about 10-15 teeth off my belt. I am very certain of this because I took it all apart once I got it back home and tried to fix it myself. Once I got the cam covers and the pullys loose, I realized I was in way over my head and got to looking for a mechanic who was proficient with 928s. That was where the 2000 928OCIC was a Godsend for me. I drove a (shudder) borrowed Ford Explorer <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" /> and rented a U-haul tow dolly to Witchita with my baby on back. Anyway, I am getting a bit <img src="graemlins/offtopic.gif" border="0" alt="[offtopic]" /> so I will conclude with stating that the only things I confidently know about the 1983 models are that it was the year model used in the film Risky Buisness (it had no spoilers BTW) and that it came after 1982 and before 1984.
