The Wheel Turns

I am a new member of rennlist with a '85 928 which is resting impatiently in the garage at the moment. Having read through many of the topics I can't help but feel that the wheel turns when it comes to learning old lessons about basic problems with the 928. To cut a long story short I had a start problem which prompted me to remove the intake manifold and begin the process of replacing all the hardened arteries of my shark's heart. The problem I have now is trying to identify all of the parts I should be replacing. For example there is a set of vacuum lines split in seven that I can identify to a certain extent but two of them appear to go rearwards - how and should I replace them. I have replaced most of them to date. There are also two rubber tubes(approx half inch) coming from the throttle assembly on the right hand side that I can't identify in order to replace (not the idle stabiliser - I have a new one) what are they called? A tube comes from the oil filler (forward of two on right hand side) that I don't know how to identify (the rear one has a plastic valve that sits in the metal connector). There is also a three pin electrical connector that sits next to the test connector that had brittle bits falling off. Overall I want to do as much as I can while I have the ribs separated but I am getting confused over correct identification and the best preventative maintenance required. Many parts may need replacing as I have over 30,000 miles on the clock (which stopped for the previous owner ie could be more mileage). I have owned the vehicle for a couple of months and would like to do the best job to give it a new lease of life. I must admit that I have little idea of what I am doing except for the fact that I know the system will work better with new parts ie I can do simple remove and replace. I also have a new fuel filter and understand that fuel line cleaning is very important. Can anyone chat to provide me with their experience in fixing my shark. I have a CD of the microfiche but its really hard to follow.
Cheers
Neil

Welcome to the Rennlist 928 Board Neil.
A couple suggestions:
You may find it beneficial to structure numerous questions into a format that allows members an easier way of tackling your information request.
Example:
1. There are also two rubber tubes(approx half inch) coming from the throttle assembly on the right hand side that I can't identify in order to replace (not the idle stabiliser - I have a new one) what are they called?
2. A tube comes from the oil filler (forward of two on right hand side) that I don't know how to identify (the rear one has a plastic valve that sits in the metal connector).
- Is this a question? -
3. There is also a three pin electrical connector that sits next to the test connector that had brittle bits falling off.
- Appears to be a statement only - not a question. -
One final tip - you may get better responses by starting out asking only one or two questions, then adding additional questions as the discussion progresses.
Perhaps you might use the edit function on your post above to better represent the information you are after.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll get the help you need here.

Since your model year got edited out, I can only relate to you what is vaild for my MY 1979 but true for you too. Get the the little spec book for your model year car. It has all the capacities, torque values for bolts ,tolerances, vacuum wiring diagrams for the engine, (and in my case for the door locks too) etc, etc. This book is a great thing to have if your working on the car, as it fits in your shirt pocket and has all the info your always asking yourself about while your working, like "how many quarts of ATF go in here...?" I got mine on EBAY, but depending on what year you car is, you might be able to find them at the big three. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
