hello looking to buy a 928 need help
I found local with a 79 928 that has been sitting 2 years ran fine before, but now won't start! Besides the battery what else should I worry about? spark or fuel problems? Are there any good buying guides things to look for?
Any other 928 forums?

Battery is clearly the first inquiry. Perhaps fuel and fuel pump next.
There are other 928 BBS systems. IMHO the Rennlist site is the most frequented, you can find another at the Pelican Parts web site.
BTW, I'm just north of you in Mundelein, so I'd be happy to help you take a look at the car.
Peace,
Tim

Well if you want another set of eyes to take a look at the car (providing it's around NW Chicagoland) let me know.

A couple of years sitting is not long. The issue with the CIS fuel system is the fine screens in the Warm Up Regulator. If they get clogged the car will not run. Best to figure a complete fuel system clean out. This is time consuming but luckly will cost very little in parts. Most everything can be serviced and put back together. You will need a new filter, tank screen and some o-rings in the fuel distributor.
Of course all this is assuming there is nothing mechanical wrong with the engine.
Good luck.

the 79 MY is simple. no real computers to speak of. If you have spark and fuel you shoud be good. As far as telling you what to look for.... That a little hard with out knowing where we are going, so to speak. I would do a simple PPI.... compression check is easy and will tell you a lot. I strongly suggest you do this. If you think you are going to "steal" a 928, you are not. Parts are costly.. bottom line. Do not think you are buying a bargain porsche. you are not. I would hate to see yet another car go to parts becasue someone is in over their head.....

Shark Attack,
Don't be so negative man!
The guy has experience, just not with this car. My favorite quote about the 928 is from that rebuild show, 'These cars are STUPIDLY cheap to buy.'
Having said that, it's a non-interference engine and it (supposedly) ran before it was parked, so with effort in the right direction (all rubber fuel lines replaced, go through the running/safety gear) there's no reason it shouldn't be a great car in no time.

Once you get it home, it's not a bad idea to replace the check valve at the rear primary fuel pump, it's cheap and often fails and causes both pumps to burn up if left in place when it goes bad, which it's prone to do in a car thats been sitting.
If you end up purchasing, keep us posted on the build up.

Most get parked because they're having some sort of problem.
A problem that is costly and/or complex enough that it discouraged them from fixing it at the time.

Post the photos! we like photos. You'd be surprised what these guys can find that's wrong from some photos. Particularly engine photos.
I'm tempted to come look too, as I am in Chicago through the weekend. No transportation though...
