Just giving the guy an honest heads up. This sounds like a classic "Im going to steal this non running Porsche" The car doesnt run, its an OB, So at most the guy should be about what 2000.00 at most....... the preceived value to a non-Porsche guy is "wow a Porsche like in Risky Business, wow and only $XXXX.XX." He is on the board asking what could be wrong with it before he has even looked at it... Thats a tell tale sign that he is hoping to find out its a cheap fix, without fixing it... becasue if he fixes it while the old owner has it the price might go up....... I do wish him the best. But Im just reading between the lines here.

The guy has experience, just not with this car. My favorite quote about the 928 is from that rebuild show, 'These cars are STUPIDLY cheap to buy.'

Having said that, it's a non-interference engine and it (supposedly) ran before it was parked, so with effort in the right direction (all rubber fuel lines replaced, go through the running/safety gear) there's no reason it shouldn't be a great car in no time.

The 3spd autos seem to be a lot more reliable than manual...the synchros seem to go out on the OB manuals ...

my recollection is that the early auto trannys had some issues, which is why in '83 or '84 Porsche switched to the 4 speed auto. Don't know the technicalities, so I'll refer to the vast number of gurus here for that. Also, make sure it had the front upper A arms converted from the alum ball joint to the steel. This was a recall item back then if I recall...Good luck, and post some pics...

http://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/car/366541608.html

here is the car he is referring to.

When are you going to look at it? I can come along as well depending on the timing....

I used to have a 1980 Euro S that had CIS so I can try and help u get it running if thats what u plan on....

just re-read the ad, you might want to pass on this one, its been sitting 5 years and i don't where u got the idea that he started to paint it, the guy clearly says he WANTED to paint it but never did....
that paint is FADED

That car is $10,000 away from being a $5,000 car ...the $1,100 is more than it is worth. And now it has been "resting" for 5 YEARS ! Parked outside in the driveway no doubt the leaves from the trees have blocked the drain on the windshield well and water has been running in through the heater blower dripping down on top of the fuse relay panel . I know Ace you hope to drop in a battery and drive it HOME .....

I hope your not referring to the $1100 as being in your price range. That's just the price of admission. Perhaps you should think more in terms of $5000 as being in your price range for this car. That is unless you actually want it to look good. In that case you need to throw in another 6 to 8K for a cheap paint job and interior work.

Ahh thats a new ad to me the old one was taken down! Now that I back went looking for it was posted around june 30th and that's the 4th!
But still for the price and the skills I have the only thing that worry's me is bad grounds/ wiring and cleaning out the fuel system and a bad fuel pump ! As long as the car cranks I can get it to run!

I also found this ad but the car seems beat! but I do have a car he wants that i'm selling!
a 1990 corrado G60

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/car/358571310.html

Don't get me wrong here I like buying them cheap and fixing all the problems no matter the cost its
just how I learn the car! For the Fact I have never taken a car to a shop and yet I have built some of the worlds fastest 1st gen MR2's out there! but i'm not here to brag!
I just don;t really know much about the 928 !

Well i'm not here for looks thats for sure ! But more less the to own an 928 and learn ! And if I did want to paint or repair any thing I am an I-car Tig welder and do work For I'm pretty sure chicago land's number 1 BMW body shop in the area.
Listen i'm not hear to pick fights or upset any one !
I'm sure most of you have higher standards for these cars, but do you want it in the junk yard? Or with some one else getting it running and selling it cheap to some else who will taken it even more down the road and not place it in junk yard ?
