Default Wanted: Backup Light Socket for GTS

Anybody have a socket for the backup light bulb on a GTS for sale? I assume the S4 uses the same socket, and maybe even earlier models do as well.

I discovered one of my backup lights has the bulb soldered in. I'd like to fix this, but a complete replacement harness is outrageously expensive.

Thanks,
Tom

Well Tom, you could solder in a new bulb. . . Short of that I believe a 93-95 Nissan Quest or Mercury Villager socket can be modified with a exacto knife to work in the 928. The socket should be available in most good auto parts stores.

Jim,

Thanks for the tip on the alternative sockets. I'll check those out.

The current bulb isn't burned out. I just don't like the idea of soldered-in light bulbs.

Tom... I night have one from a euro harness that was mistakenly installed on my car. I might have thrown it out, but I doubt it as I never seem to throw anything away. So it should be just a matter of finding it. I'll take a look tonight if I have time.

Tom, are you sure the actual sockets changed over the 18 years of production? I have OB tail light assemblies that you can have a socket or two out of....and I am just down the road

Didn't somebody say the 944 used the same sockets? Anybody here who could verify this?

Well, I did a little checking in the PET. The S4 rear lights have the same wiring harness with light sockets on it as GTSs (not surprising). Earlier 928s look like the sockets are built in to the tail light fixture rather on a separate harness.

944s appear to be similar to early 928s, whereas 968s have sockets on a wiring harness like S4s and GTSs. The harness has a different part number, but may use the same sockets.

Of course, the PET diagrams aren't all that detailed, so I could be mistaken.

Keith, can you check your OB taillights to see if the sockets come off like on the S4/GTS? Doesn't look like it, but if so, I'm definitely interested.

Tom-

I took a quick look see for you lat night and didn't see it. It's probably buried somewhere. I'll look for it over the weekend.
