Default Need CV Joint Help

I just moved to a new city and have not yet got my manual out of storage - cant yet find it. I am looking for how to get the case apart that covers the CV Joint. I got it apart on the transmission side but can not figure out how to get the covers apart on the outside CV Joint. Any pics or guidance would be most appreciated.
Thanks

Now about 3 hours of searching archives and one post seems to indicate that the outer does not come apart???

Warren,
Yep, as you've discovered the outer axle shaft does not unbolt as the inner / transmission end does.
I think this was changed after MY 1982......
You need to unbolt the big axle shaft nut at the wheel, and then the axle pulls right out toward the trans... However, I don't believe the outer CV is rebuild-able....... I'd just clean it thoroughly, and look for wear, and if it looks okay, just re-grease it.
Best,

Thanks,
I have the shaft out (undid the axle nut already). I was hopint to replace both CV's. Does this mean that ther is no way to replace the outer CV - it is part of a unit that includes the 2 shafts?

Right, its all or nothing. You could try to change shafts from side to side. Sometimes this helps on semi worn CV's to extend their useful life as wear pattern is different on other side.

They can be rebuilt but in a process similar to how they were made in the first place by a commercial rebuilder who has the tools and technology to remachine them fit new ***** etc. we sell them as a complete replacement axle exchange $249 each axle and has BOTH CV joints new boots greased and ready to bolt in.

Just an update...

Replaced both boots and repacked bearings. I also replaced the wheel bearing and wheel hub - thanks 928 Int. for your amazingly quick shipment.... as always. I got the job completed last night, retorqued the "big nut" and took it for a test drive - the clicking noises... gone, the driveline noises... gone. Driving the car again today to work and it is a huge improvement.

Thanks again to all that replied and for the Rennlist archives for guidance.

Warren
