Nicole,
Stick to the exersises!! They've helped me stay out from under the knife for over 3 years!!! Stretching and strenghthening your "Core" is the key! I've got no disc between my L5 S1 and my leg used to feel like Dr. Bob. My sciatic used to give me grief in my hip, leg would go numb below my knee after 10 minutes of standing up and I had to give up running for almost 2 years as the pain the next day was out of control! At 36 years old, I thought I was way too young to be feeling that way at the time. Started going to the Chiro, but my guy is more of a sports med guy. He does NOT adjust me. He stretches the heck out of my legs, gave me core exersises to follow and has kept me together ever since. I was able to start running again, and can now stand up at work for HOURS if I need to without pain or numbness.
Your guy may have told you to get one of those cheap ***** from Target or one of your local sporting goods stores. (Hopefully he did) You can do some great exersises with that for your abs, your sides, and your back. - (YOUR CORE Muscles) Your back will loose muscle tone over time if you do not exersise it! By strenghthening and stretching you build up muscle fibers that give a small degree of "space" for nerves so they will not get pinched off.
Russ, I do the same thing you do. I used to be like my dad and prided myself on how far I could go on a road trip without stopping. Now I get out and move around after 2.5 hours and stretch a bit. I also use the lumbar on full inflate which helps big time!
Nicole, best of luck with the back! Stay with the exersises, they will work, I promise!! And BTW, don't stop doing them if you feel better, you'll only go back to feeling like you did before if you stop!!!
Take care!

I agree with Chuck. Strengthen your core, stretch, and move around. Simple formula. Sometimes I sit at this desk and gaze at this screen for hours., and turn into a blob of stuck goop. But I also go to the gym and fight class for two to three hours and work out. All is good again. Then it is back to the screen and more inactivity. Stretching is great, and keep moving around.

Would highly recommend taking up Tai Chi Chuan &/or Yoga. Not from a video but find some expert instruction. Plenty of good places to train around your area.
Hope you are feeling much better soon!

Great advice! And very much appreciated!
The reason why I took this new job at the Mercedes dealership is because I'm not big into exercising, so it's great for me to stand and walk on the job instead. But I realize that while standing and walking does help a lot, it's not going to solve the problem completely. I'm trying my best to do my exercises, which help also.
Overall it's much better than it was when this thread started, even though I haven't seen the Chiro since I started the new job. I might go back in the new year, or try another one then. Rick has sent me some helpful info on the subject as well (Thanks, Rick!).
