I'm going to send you a Doctor Scholl's lead foot insert.

Don't worry, you will figure this out.

Nicole
Major bummer, but at least the wasaabi was a cheap fix!!

I've noticed in mine that on longer drives I get mini cramps in my foot....that requires stretching every so often....so I can move my foot around when on cruise or a quick BWAAAHH typically fixes it....

There has to be a way to lubricate-lighten the effort on the throttle cable......maybe a roller cam or something............PORKEN you listening?

I've got it! I'm a DC, although I specialized in radiology, and I love the sharks. I'll take the car. Whala...no more back pain. I definitely agree with some of the advise here... try conservative, responsible treatment and then go from there. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, everygody!

I'm supposed to get waSAABi back tomorrow; it'll be a long bus and BART ride to get it. But that's better than a broken engine!!!

As to the sciatic - the anti-inflamatory medication is helping, and I will explore the recommended treatment options for myself and the shark. Hope we can save our "marriage"... LOL!

The bearing on that plastic cable pulley may be bad?

I don't know if the S4 intakes are the same, but on the earlier cars, there is a small roller which travels in the throttle gate which was not turning on my '86.5. Once I freed it up, and lubed it, the throttle was much smoother.

Speaking of the throttle gate, I was trying to think of a 944 throttle cam type fix for my '86. The action of throttle is very slow until the last bit, where it opens rapidly, because of the shape of the gate. I couldn't think of a way to do it at the throttle, but it might be done by an a non-linear linkage at the front.

For the S4>, correcting the throttle gate might be as simple as an offset replacement for the plastic pulley?

Wow! You dodged the bullet on that one! I remember reading about that seal being a problem. If HB keeps her SAAB/Opel after the last 'free' timing belt change, then I was considering leaving off the cover. I took it off one time, and drove to the stealership to point out a noisy tensioner, and it looked cool.

...and the tow truck driver asked me to start the engine so he could hear the noise. I'm glad I refused! I wonder how many engines get the kiss of death because someone else wants to hear and diagnose the problem. Scary!

Nicole,

I'll drive for you on the next fun run

Seriously, I get the same thing if I have my wallet in my back pocket, so you might look at a tush cusion for one cheek
It is all about position in the seat and maybe your driver seat needs to be rebuilt/padded?

Nicole, I do 400 ab crunches per day in the morning before breakfast, then more core exercises including 150 reps in each direction raising my upper body relative to my hips and another 100 reps of a strange leg raising exercise to stretch my lower back muscles. Then I do 50 to 100 twisting reps and 20 pushups on my fists, and finally at least 20 hindu pushups. All to wake up and strengthen my core. Then I'm off to Krav for two or three hours of brutal ab and other exercises and then an hour of weights in the gym.

Ya gots ta strengthen yur core Nicole. No doubt about it. Work through the pain.

This one is easy. Just look for the exact same Saab you already have but with the 2.0 turbo.

Seriously, I hope you get your back issue sorted out. It's weird to hear so many people with issues in the 928, for me it's the most comfortable car I've ever driven; I don't get the same problem with my right shoulder after long stints at the wheel that I get in all the other cars I've driven.

I agree with Chris. I have never experienced such a suitable driving position in any car as that of the 928. Fantastic, hour after pleasureable hour, and the faster I drive it the better it gets. Compared to a 911, the elbow room is also fantastic. I love it.

Nicole, I met a woman in SoCal that has invented a device that facilitates stretching the back by hanging your whole body and allowing your spine to stretch and loosen (decompress). She claims it will alleviate lower back pain and a number of other ailments. I believe her (not just because she is attractive; you know me ) but because we are basically and originally monkeys that evolved from (or de-evolved as Normy says) from apes that hung from trees all day long. Now we sit at desks in chairs staring at these little boxes all day long. Then we experience spinal and other pains. I will try her device. She has documented evidence of its effectiveness. But you could do it simply by stepping out of your place and climbing a tree in the park and hanging from a branch. Seriously.
I'm planning to do that at the gym this week. I'll report later, if I don't decide to build a tree house and return to my roots.

Sorry to hear about the back pain, that sucks.

When I got my 87 the throttle was pretty stiff and not dissimilar to other 928's I have driven, after changing out the throttle cables, bearings on the assembly located on the intake and the roller assemly just behind the MAF it is much better. Just a thought.

Nicole, try some oil. I've heard it works wonders for dry metal lubrication, but that may have simply been an urban legend.
