Help - New Windshield Fit -Side Trim
Help - just spent $1700 for a windshield replacement thru the local Porsche dealer, and it looks like s@#*.... Is there supposed to be large gaps running down the outside of the windshield and trim? There is about a half inch gap running down each side of the outer side trim pieces. I water tested - it is tight, but it looks bad - like something is missing that should be stuffed in the gap? I did a thread search - tons of stuff, but nothing on this issue.
The windshiled is a sigla - good glass (imbedded ant). They also screwed up the wipers when they reinstalled and left the car filthy - going back first thing in the am, when the service guys are there (they outsourced it apparantly - pisses me off - figure you'd get the best job from the friggin p-car dealer, and they outsource on their site to a bunch of yahoos)

Without the trim there is a reasonable gap between the glass and the edge of the surrounding bodywork.
At the sides, with the trim installed there should be a gap of about 1/4" between the edge of the trim and the face of the glass ie the trim overlaps the edge of the glass but is about 1/4" away from the glass.
At the top of the screen the gap should be about 1/16" or less.
The GTS had a rubber insert to fill the gap at the sides - this can be retrofitted to other models.

Can you show us a picture?
What you describe sounds normal for your model year. Some time in 1990 they started to fill that gap, and some time in 1991 they upgraded that filler to real rubber pieces that reduced wind noise further.
The latter can be added to older cars, but you should not expect to get them for free.

as soon as I get a digital cam I'll post a pic. It's hard to believe that the cars would leave the factory with that much space around the sides of the windshield! Also, I didn't recall there being as much space before I took it in for the repair, but I didn't look either (altho I would have noticed that from the outset...)

that's about what mine is, maybe a tad more - that's more than 1/4"....man that sure seems big to me - why was that designed in? At high speeds, wonder if it could have some affect? I know that the coeffient of drag was decreased from the OB to the S4's and beyond, this had to be one of the areas of improvement?

Install is pretty simple if you pay attention to the top and bottom fitment of weatherstrip.
Here's how I did it...

wonder if it would work on pre-S4 models?
